ALTERNATIVE FUELGROUP 1 PRESENTATION
TYPE OF ALTERNATIVE FUEL
AN IMPORTANCE OF ALTERNATIVE FUEL• TO REDUCE AN EMISSIONS THAT PRODUCE AMONG THE
VEHICLE• TO SAVE AND REDUCE OF USES SOURCE OF NATURAL OIL• TO GIVE A REALIZATION TO ALL VEHICLE USER THAT
IMPORTANT TO REDUCE A POLLUTION • TO SAVE COST AND SPEND MONEY ON USES OF FUEL
COMPARISON THE ADVANTAGE AN DISADVANTAGE VARIOUS OF ALTERNATIVE FUEL
COMPRESSED AIR ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES
1. Produce zero emissions
2. It is highly available
3. It is fairly cheap
4. Use electric power to regulate air
temperature
5. Can be refueled at home with an air
compressor
6. It is fairly safe to store
1. vulnerable to change in temperature and
climate
2. Refueling could take hours
3. Limited in travel range
NATURAL GAS VEHICLE ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES
1. NGV is cheaper than petrol (up to 50%)
It produces less exhaust emissions than
petrol
2. It is better for the engine and it can
prolong engine life
3. In some vehicles, it can provide better
performance
4. Has a higher octane rating than petrol
(108 compared to 91)
1. It isn't highly available
2. The initial cost for converting your
vehicle. However the average car can repay
the cost of the conversion in about 2 years
3. It has a lower energy density than petrol
4. No new passenger cars come readily
fitted with NGV (they have to be converted)
5. The gas tank takes up a considerable
amount of space in the car boot
LITHIUM-ION POLYMER BATTERIES ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES
1. They are much cleaner than petrol and
diesel vehicles, especially if they are
recharged with renewable energy. Cars
with these batteries can be carbon neutral
2. Li-Poly batteries are very energy
efficient
3. They provide enough distance per
recharge for the average person to drive
around a city
4. Li-poly batteries can be easily recharged
at home or at recharging stations
5. They are 20% lighter, more robust and
more efficient than other battery
technologies like lithium-ion and NiMH
(used in the original EV1)
1. They are still fairly expensive to
manufacture. They are usually the most
expensive part of an electric car. However,
prices of rechargeable batteries are rapidly
decreasing
2. The lifespan of the battery is currently
only 2-3 years. However, technology is
always developing and this is sure to
increase
3. There may not be enough infrastructure,
like public recharging stations for electric
cars
NGV COMPONENT AND ITS FUNCTION
REGULATOR ( REDUCER )The pressure regulator works as receive gas and keep high pressure on a gas delivery line. It must be attached at vehicle body and must be on a flat surface allows the firm placement of the support bracket so that the vibration of body will not loosen it
MANOMETERMANOMETER MUST BE PLACED ON THE REGULATOR BECAUSE ITS FUNCTION TO MEASURE VOLUME OF GAS ON THE TANK. IT HAS TO INSTALL AT CLEAR PLACE SO THAT EASY READ AT THE TIME OF FILLING THE GAS TANK
Injector emulatorAllows for the elecrical interruption of the vehicles petrol fuel injectors without affecting the operation of vehicle ecu and onboard diagnostic system
Filling valve Its function as a place to filling a gas through it before reached to the tank.
PETROL OR NGV SELECTOR SWITCHTHE SWITCH SHOULD BE INSTALLED AT AN EASILY ASSESIBLE LOCATION ON THE DASHBOARD SO THAT THE CHANGES OF FUEL CAN TAKE PLACE EFFORTLESSLY WHILE DRIVING.
TANK AND IT VALVETO STORE A NATURAL GAS ACCORDING TO IT SIZE AND VOLUME AND MUST BE INSTALLED PERPENDICULAR WITH AXLE. VALVE FUNCTION AS TO KEEP HIGH PRESSURE ON A STORAGE TANK AND ALLOW VENTILATION OF ANY LEAKAGE GAS.
TIMING ADVANCE PROCESSORUsed on a fuel injection engine where its function to adjust the ignition timing when the engine running on gas and resets the original advance timing when the engine operates with petrol
INJECTOR GAS ELECTRONICTO SPRAY A NATURAL GAS IN THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER WHEN ENGINE OPERATE USING AN NGV
DIAGRAM OF NGV SYSTEM
OPERATION OF NGV SYSTEM1. Natural gas is compressed and enters the vehicle through the natural gas fill valve (receptacle).
2. It flows into high-pressure cylinders or tank located in or under the vehicle.
3. In a NGV, a fuel selector on the dashboard permits selection of natural gas or gasoline to act as the fuel for the vehicle. A dedicated NGV operates solely on natural gas.
4. When natural gas is needed by the engine, it leaves the cylinders and passes through the master manual shut-off valve.
5. The gas goes through the high-pressure fuel line and enters the engine compartment.
6. Gas enters the regulator, which reduces pressure from up to 3,600 psi to near atmospheric pressure.
7. The natural gas solenoid valve allows natural gas to pass from the regulator into the gas mixer or natural gas fuel injectors.
8. In a NGV natural gas mixed with air flows down through the gasoline carburettor or fuel injection system and enters the engine’s combustion chambers. In a dedicated NGV, natural gas is injected into the engine’s combustion chamber via specially designed natural gas fuel injectors.
9. In a NGV, when the driver selects gasoline, the conventional gasoline system is activated and the natural gas system is automatically shut off.
THE ADVANTAGE OF USING NGVAdvantages
• The biggest advantage of NGV is that they reduce environmentally harmful emissions.
• NGV are safer. The fuel storage tanks on an NGV are thicker and stronger than gasoline or diesel tanks.
• Natural gas costs are lower than gasoline. On average, natural gas costs one-third less than gasoline at the pump.
• Natural gas prices have exhibited significant stability compared to oil prices. This stability makes it easier to plan accurately for long-term costs.
• NGV have lower maintenance costs. Because natural gas burns so cleanly, it results in less wear and tear on the engine and extends the time between tune ups and oil changes.
Disadvantages• Using lot of room and space to install the NGV tanks on the
vehicle • The price of NGV tanks are expensive to design and build for
each of vehicle compared to a petrol tank• Less power and performance compared to petrol uses• Limited and hard exist of gas station on a certain places
