J-185The J-185 appeared in 1951, introducing a subtle new combination of design elements with its maple back and sides and itscomfortable, 16-inch jumbo body shape. Theresult was a distinctive new flat-top guitar sound. The J-185’s clear voice and balanced tone caughtthe attention of discerning musicians, includingthe Everly Brothers, who used it as the model fortheir famous signature Gibson model of the1960s.

Today’s J-185 provides the foundation for a full line of innovative guitars, ranging from the L-4A Cutaway to the electrified J-190 Fusion to the ultra-fancy J-2000 Cutaway Custom.
