I’m Shane. I’m Chair of Slow Food London.

I’m not important – the woman I taught to bake a cake in her

saucepan is.

It’s why I am here today

Most of Slow Food UK’s money is restricted funds.Equally, it – importantly- has to give £60 000 a year to Slow Food International for the work SFI does over-seas.A conundrum.... How to fund the UK?

Slow Food UK sought more members, so the Trust asked individuals why they didn’t join.

Sounds good?

Except that people often act differently to how they say they will

42% Adults snore at least three times a week.....

... But only 8% admit to it

So what was the one wish that non members told Slow Food

would make them join?

They said, indeed promised, to join in their thousands, if, only one wish were granted...

... And that was if the membership fee became lower

Except, these people also didn’t think they

snored. And they didn’t join Slow Food

Q. But where did the decrease get funded from anyway?

A. The Local Rebate

The same local rebate that funded the “cook a cake in your saucepan” in some of Europe’s poorest housing estates.

That paid for “Feed a family for a fiver”

That paid for educational projects in “failing” schools.

How can we do things differently?

Become more affordable

Reduce Churn rates

Less admin – lower cost base
