Mr.LorenzoSantucciisEconomicAffairsOfficerwiththeUnitedNationsEconomicandSocialCommissionforAsiaandthePacific(UN-ESCAP),basedinBangkok,Thailand,wherehehasbeenemployedsince2005.Heisresponsibleforvariousareasofwork,includingclimatechange,greengrowth,urbandevelopment,andsolidwastemanagement,amongothers.HeisthemanagerofESCAP’sregionalprogrammeonpro-poorandsustainablesolidwastemanagementinsecondarycitiesinAsia-Pacific.PriortojoiningESCAP,Mr.SantucciwasemployedattheUnitedNationsConferenceonTradeandDevelopment(UNCTAD)analyzingthelinkagesbetweentradeandtheenvironment,includingintermsofextendedproducerresponsibilityandtrans-boundarymovementsofwaste.

Mr.IftekharEnayetullahisCo-founderandDirectorofWasteConcern,aBangladeshiNGOthathasconceptualized,designedandimplementedthecommunity-baseddecentralizedcompostingmodelknownastheIntegratedResourceRecoveryCentre.WasteConcernhasbeenworkingwithESCAPtopromotethiscompostingmodelacrossAsia,andinKushtia,Bangladesh.Mr.Enayetullahisacivilengineerandurbanplannerbytraining.Heisapractitioner,researcherandasocialentrepreneurinareasofwastemanagement,environmentalmanagementandcleanenergy.Mr.Enayetullahhasadvisednumerousinternationalagencies,developmentbanksandotherorganizationsonsustainablewastemanagement.

MrJayaratneKanankeArachchilageisthePresidentofSevanathaUrbanResourceCentre,aSriLankanNGO.Sevanathaundertakesurbandevelopmentprojectsinarangeofsectors,includinghousing,solidwasteandpovertyreduction.SevanathaissupportingESCAP’sregionalprojectintwocities,namelyMataleandRatnapura.MrJayaratnestudiedurbanplanningattheAsianInstituteofTechnology,Bangkok.Since2009,hehasworkedwithUNDPandUN-Habitatontenure,housingandcommunityplanninginBangladesh.Priortothis,MrJayaratneworkedwitharangeofnationalhousingauthoritiesinSriLanka,includingtheMinistryofHousing,aswellasUNagencies,mostnotablyUN-Habitat.Hehaslecturedonthesubjectsoflandeconomy,urbanplanningandhousing.

Dr.NgoHuyLiemistheExecutiveDirectorofEnvironmentandDevelopmentinAction(ENDA)VietNam.ENDAVietNamseekstoreducepovertyandpromotesustainabledevelopmentbyworkingwithcommunitiesandgrassrootsgroups.ENDAhasbeenimplementingprojectsintwocitiesinVietNaminpartnershipwithESCAP.Dr.LiemstudieddevelopmenteconomicsattheUniversityofFreiburg,GermanyandhasheldteachingandresearchpositionswithuniversitiesinGermany,thePhilippinesandSwitzerland.HehasspentadecadewiththeGermanTechnicalDevelopmentAgencyadvisingtheVietnameseMinistryofLabor,InvalidsandSocialAffairs,andhasworkedasasenioradvisorforUNDP,theWorldBankandotherinternationaldevelopmentorganizations.

Mr.KoraHengYonisFounderandExecutiveDirectoroftheCommunitySanitationandRecyclingOrganization(CSARO).CSAROseekstoaddresstheneedsoftheurbanpoor,includinginformalsectorwastepickers.Theorganizationundertakesarangeofcommunityoutreachanddevelopmentprojects,andimplementsESCAP’sregionalprojectinKampot.Mr.Korastudiedpublicadministrationandpolicy.PriortofoundingCSAROin1998,Mr.KoraworkedfortheWorldHealthOrganizationinCambodia,aswellasUNDPandtheILO,onprojectsrelatedtohealth,waste,capacitybuildingandcommunitydevelopment.Intheearly1990s,heworkedfortheUnitedNationsTransitionalAuthorityofCambodiaonissuesrelatedtohumanrightsandrefugees.

MsSumairaGulisProgramManagerattheDr.AkhtarHameedKhanMemorialTrust,anorganizationfoundedin2000anddedicatedtoimprovingsanitationandwastemanagementinPakistan.MsGuljoinedtheTrustin2002.Herworkfocusesoncommunity-levelsanitationandurbandevelopmentissues,atopicuponwhichshehaswrittentwobooks.In2008,Ms.GulwasinvolvedintheestablishmentofE-Guard,originallyapilotinitiativesetupinRawalpindi.E-Guardisamodelforcommunitysolidwastemanagementandhasbeenreplicatedindifferentcitiesinthecountry.In2012,itbecameafunctioningsocialenterprise.MsGulhasamastersdegreeinpoliticalscience,andhasrunforlocalofficeandservedastownmember.

MohammadHelmyisViceChairmanofIndonesiaSolidWasteAssociation,theIndonesiannationalchapterofISWA,whereheconcentratesonworkandprogramsrelatingto3Randextendedproducerresponsibility.TheIndonesiaSolidWasteAssociationissupportingESCAP’sregionalprojectinJambiandMalangRegency,twocitiesinIndonesia.Foralmosttenyears,Mr.HelmyworkedwiththeMinistryofEnvironmentonarangeofenvironmentalpolicyandprograms,includingcleanandgreencitiyinitiatives,cleanriverinitiatives,andwastemanagementinitiatives.Priortohisworkwithnationalgovernment,MrHelmyheldofficesonregionalandprovincialboardsandgovernments.HestudiedchemistryandeconomicsattheuniversitiesofGadjahMadaandJakarta.

Mr.AbuHasnatMd.MaqsoodSinhaisCo-FounderandExecutiveDirectorofWasteConcern,andDirectoroftheWaste-to-ResourceFund.TheWaste-to-ResourceFundwasestablishedwithsupportfromtheBillandMelindaGatesFoundationtosupport3Rinitiatives.Amongstotherinitiatives,theFundsupportsESCAP’sregionalproject.Mr.Sinhaisatrainedarchitectandurbanplanner,specializinginenvironment,wastemanagementandrecycling.Heisapractitioner,researcherandasocialentrepreneurintheareasofwastemanagement,environmentalmanagementandcleanenergy.Mr.Sinhahascarriedoutawiderangeofconsultanciesforinternationalagencies,developmentbanks,andnationalministriesonsustainablewastemanagement.
