TIPS FOR MORE
Even more versatile and surprising things to do with Kellogg’s cereals (Whether that last little bit in the box or a few cups full)
Cereal provides a crunchy and delicious topping or even coating for so many dishes. Add a nutty flavor and some extra fiber with Kellogg’s whole-grain or bran cereals!
These websites can provide many meal, snack and even craft ideas for using Kellogg’s cereals.
• Sprinkle a light layer of crushed Kellogg’s Rice Krispies® or Kellogg’s Corn Flakes® on top of a pastry crust before baking for extra crispness.
• Kellogg’s Rice Krispies® or Kellogg’s Cocoa Krispies® lends itself nicely as an ice cream or yogurt topping. Just the right amount of Krisp!
• Top casseroles or steamed veggies with a sprinkle of crunchy Kellogg’s Corn Flakes®, Kellogg’s Rice Krispies® or Special K® cereals or blend them together for a variety of flavors and textures.
• Make cereal croutons by combining different cereals with favorite seasonings for a multi-layered taste and texture sensation. A general rule for proportions is 1 teaspoon oil and 1/2 - 1 teaspoon of seasonings per cup of cereal.
- Place the cereal in a plastic bag. Drizzle oil over top and shake, then add seasonings and shake again to coat. Let sit in bag for 2 hours.
- To make extra crisp, instead of keeping them in the bag, spread the coated cereal on a baking sheet lined with foil and coated with cooking spray. Bake at 325o for 8-10 minutes and let cool.
• Use crushed cereals for crispy coating on baked chicken or fish. No one will know it isn’t fried!
• Roll a cheeseball or cheese log in crushed Special K® or Kellogg’s Corn Flakes®. This is a great substitution for chopped nuts when concerned about nut allergies.
• Making your own homemade ice cream cookie sandwiches? Try rolling the edges in some semi-crushed Special K®. Its many varieties will add a bright flavor pop. Other options that add a different flavor personality: Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes®, Cocoa Krispies®, Raisin Bran®, Low Fat Granola® and Froot Loops®.
• Stir a cup or so of Kellogg’s Complete Wheat Flakes® into soup or stew as a thickener about 15 minutes before serving. No crushing necessary.
• Substitute a crushed fiber-containing cereal such as Kellogg’s All-Bran® cereals for cracker or bread crumbs in meatloaf or meatballs. No one’s the wiser and your dish will be extra moist!
• Slightly crush any Kellogg’s Frosted Mini-Wheats® bite size cereal and sprinkle it over mashed sweet potatoes or baked winter squash.
• Rock a baked fruit dessert by topping with Special K® Granola or Kellogg’s Raisin Bran® instead of rolled oats or other toppings.
• Double down on fiber in a fruit and yogurt parfait by using Kellogg’s All-Bran® or All-Bran® Buds, Raisin Bran® or Frosted Mini-Wheats® Little Bites. The flavor and texture combinations are endless.
• Making Smoothies? Add a handful of any of Kellogg’s All-Bran® cereals to the blender to incorporate the goodness of grains and fiber.
