The Riverside Museum

Blueprints

Concept• The museums design flows from the city to the river, which is why it is called the riverside museum• The museum symbolizes a dynamic relationship where it is the voice of both, connecting the city to the

river and also the transition from one to the other• Floor space: 7,500sqm • The building houses a workshop and office space for the Clyde Maritime Trust

construction• The building was mainly constructed by the BAM construction team

• Process: 2004-2011

• Summer 2008: First turf cut by Bob Winter (Lord Provost of Glasgow)• Late September 2008: steel framework of structure was taking shape• During 2010: cladding of building put in place and internal fitting-out work continued along with external

landscaping work• Late autumn 2010: structure was complete and work continued to prepare museum for opening on 21

June 2011

What I like about the building

• The architecture of the building is very unique in style• The triangular pattern on the (front) roof of the museum is what attracted me• I like that the building appears different when observed from different angles• It is a modern/futuristic building characterized by silver, smooth surfaces

Sketches

Experimenting with wire and plaster

• I decided to create a structure that links to both of the assignments. Using flexible wire, I created a triangular pattern, just like the pattern on the roof of the riverside museum. I then coated the wire with plaster, wrapping it around the wire firmly. I chose to focus on this aspect of the building because I find it to be the most intriguing part of the museum. I think this because it is very unusual which I like because it allows me to observe the building with curie.

• The structure can relate to the song I chose because it looks like different levels of volume which could represent the notes that are being played within a song.

Final pieceFor my final piece I wanted to highlight the structure of the building. i used silver card alone because I wanted a smooth, shiny finish.I am disappointed about the outcome of my structure because it looks very weak and dull.If I had the time I would definitely go back and change everything about the structure because it does not look professional at all
