INDIGO (INDIGOFERA GUATEMALENSIS E INDIGOFERA

SUFFRUTICOSA).

HistoryIndigo is a blue dye obtained from a family of plants called indigoferas. This product was widely used before the discovery of the americas. Also this product was used by the inhabitants of mesoamerica and was extracted from a bush called xiquilite and was used to dye the garments of priests y noble men.

When The Kings of Spain found out that in their conquered territories peolple produced indigo, they backed up the production and during colonial times El Salvador was the main producer of Indigo. In Century XVII, indigo production reached its peak, but after a while collapsed due to the discovery of sinthetic colorants in Europe.

Process The dye used in our clothes is 100% organic. Extracted from Xiquilite. There are two types of indigo in El Salvador: Guatemalensis and Indigofera Suffruticosa, both reach a height of 1.50 mts.

The dye is obtained cutting the branch of the plant before it blooms

Deposit the branches in a sink,

where is covered by water so it can

be fermented.

Afterwards, remove the plant

from the sink and shake to

oxigenate.

At a certain point, water is

removed to a second sink to

rest. The dusted dye is

deposited at the bottom of

the sink.

When the dye is ready, the designing

process begins. Different intensities are

obtained based on the times you

submerge the piece.
