What is In Vitro Fertilization?

In Vitro Fertilization works by combining eggs and sperm outside the body in a laboratory. Once an embryo or embryos form, they are then placed in the uterus. IVF is a complex and expensive procedure; only about 5% of couples with infertility seek it out. However, since its introduction in the U.S. in 1981, IVF and other similar techniques have resulted in more than 200,000 babies. (Todd, 2012)

Pre-natal development

Birth Often is pre term. Often by Cesarean operation. Many women have complications with

the actual birthing process.

Post Birth Many children are born

with birth defects. Potentially

underdeveloped arterial and organ systems.

Many children are born normally, but defects are a higher % than normal conception.

Development and Growth Most children grow and develop

normally. Some children develop slower than

others by percentages. Most studies are incomplete or

inconclusive.

In Vitro Fertilization in Education Schools offer special needs programs for

children who are born with birth defects and/or developmental delays.

We offer specialized education, classroom arrangements and IEP or individualized education programs for children who are in need of extra services.

ContinuedSchools offer these programs for all children who need them, whether it be traditional birth or assistive birth children.

Effects on Parents Recent studies conducted by Baram,

Tourtelot, Muechler, and Huang shows that most parents feel helpless and out of options for having their own children once a fertilization process fails.

Couples often turn to adoption or give up trying.

I know a couple that became pregnant once they quit trying.

Conclusion For many couples rewards far outweigh

risks. Over 200,000 babies have been birthed

thanks to in vitro fertilization. Technology is constantly improving.
