1. Place one 2 ½” Fabric 6 square on the left side of one 2 ½” x 4 ½” Fabric 2 strip, right sides together. Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner. Flip open the triangle formed and press. Trim away the excess fab-ric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼” seam allowance.
2. Place one 2 ½” Fabric 7 square on the right side of the 2 ½” x 4 ½” Fabric 2 strip, right sides together (Fig. 3). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper left corner to the lower right corner. Flip open, press and trim excess behind the triangle.
3. Repeat Steps 1-2 using the remaining forty-seven 2½” x 4½” Fabric 2-5 strips for the backgrounds and ninety-four 2½” Fab-ric 6-13 squares for the points to make a to-tal of forty-eight assorted flying geese units measuring 2½” x 4½”.
4. Sew four assorted 2½” Fabric 14-17 squares, four flying geese units and one 4½” Fabric 1 square together to make one Star Block. Repeat to make twelve Star Blocks total. At this point, the
blocks should measure 8½” square.
5. Sew (4) 2½” Fabric 19 squares and (3) 2½” x 8 ½” Fabric 6 strips together, alternating them, to make one sashing strip. Repeat to make five sashing strips total.
6. Sew four 2½” x 8½” Fabric 6 strips and three stars blocks together, alternating them, to make one block row. Repeat to make four block rows total.
7. Sew the five sashing strips and four block rows together, alternating them, to make the quilt top.
8. Sew one 1½” x 42½” Fabric 4 strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew one 1½” x 34½” Fabric 4 strip to the top and to the bottom of the quilt top.
9. Sew one 4½” x 44½” Fabric 18 strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew one 4½” Fabric 1 square to each end of one 4½” x 34½” Fabric 18 strip. Repeat to make a second strip. Sew the strips to the top and to the bottom of the quilt top.
10. Layer and quilt as desired.
11. Sew the five 2 ½” x WOF Fabric 8 strips together end-to-end with diagonal seams to make the binding. Fold this long strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and press.
12. Sew the binding on with ⅜″ seam allowance, mitering the corners.
