Paintsville Art Students at the Celebration of Courage Art Show
Paintsville Art Students present at the Celebration of Courage Art Show held at the M o u n t a i n A r t s C e n t e r Monday, November 13, in collaboration with UK Markey Cancer Center and H i g h l a n d s H e a l t h System. Paintsville High School was one of five schools
in the area chosen to participate in an evening of student art displays, health & wealth programs, as well as various health screening opportunities.
The program entitled "Expressions of Art" invited students to create art work that offered encouragement or honored someone dealing with cancer. Melissa Hounshell, Markey's Community Outreach Director and Danielle Franklin, Community Development Coordinator, Highlands Health System visited the art classroom early on and discussed the importance of staying fit and getting screened which concluded with students displaying their projects during the art show. "This project is so worthwhile because students are thinking of others and offering something that sometimes cannot be expressed with words and that is the beauty of art," Sandra Coleman, Paintsville High School Art Instructor.
