• In January 2012, the 130th Executive Board considered report EB130/10 by the Secretariat on "Maternal, infant and young child nutrition: draft comprehensive implementation plan" and, expressing appreciation for the work completed to date, requested the Secretariat to conduct further consultations regarding the targets via a web-based process open to all Member States and regional economic integration organizations, as well as multilateral organizations.

• WHO’s Member States have endorsed global targets for improving maternal, infant and young child nutrition and are committed to monitoring progress.

• The targets are vital for identifying priority areas for action and catalysing global change.

• The targets are voluntary and may guide priorities and goals established at country level.

• The proposed targets will have to be achieved by 2025 and progress will be measured against a baseline in 2010.
