Importing References to EndNote (Windows)

PubMed

Perform a search in PubMed.

1. Select desiredcitations.

4. Save in a temporarylocation, e.g. your desktop.

5. Save as a Text File

7. Open your EndNotelibrary.

8. From the File menuselect Import…

9. From the Import dialog box, click onChoose File.

10. Locate your savedtext file.

11. Double click toselect.

12. For Import Option, select Other Filters…

Tip: next time, PubMed will appear on this menufor selection.

13. Click on PubMed.

14. Click on Choose.

15. Click on Import.

The PubMed citations will be imported into your EndNote library.

Tip: Only the citations you just added to your library will appear in the library window. To view all of the items in your library, from the References menu

chooseShow AllReferences.

All citations will display in your library window.

Tip: if all selected references do not import into your EndNote library, and you are using EndNote7 or earlier, you will need to get the latest PubMed filter. Download this filter fromhttp://www.endnote.com/support/enfilters.asp.

1. Select the appropriateplatform.

2. Scroll down to PubMed.note: filters arelisted by date; you may needto navigate to the next screen.

3. Click on FTP.

4. Click on Save. 5. Click on Save (in the EndNote Filters folder).

6. Click on Yes to replacethe PubMed filter.

Tip: to use the new PubMed filter, you must first exit EndNote, then reopen it.

EMBASE

1. Perform a search in EMBASE.

2. Select desiredcitations.

3. In results window, selectExport.

4. Select EndNote. 5. Click on Selected…

OVID Databases - including Biosis, CAB Abstracts

1. Perform a search in an OVID database.

2. Select desiredcitations.

3. Scroll down to Results Manager.

4. Choose SelectedResults.

5. Select Complete Reference. 6. Choose DirectExport.

From the list of import filters, navigate to the filter for the Ovid database you are using(see page 4-5 above for details on saving filters)

Web of Science / Science Citation Index

Perform a search in Web ofScience.

1. Select desired citations.

2. Click on add to markedlist.

3. Click on Marked List.

Tip: if you do not wish to savethe abstract and keywords,click Export and skip steps 2-5.

4. Select additional fields to save in your library, such as keywords or abstract.

5. Click on Export to Reference Software.

6. In the EndNote dialog box, select a library.

EBSCO Databases - including PsycInfo, ERIC, NTIS, Alt-Health Watch

Perform a search in an EBSCOdatabase.

Perform a search in WorldCat / FirstSearch.
