The Idea of Social Justice comes in when we talk about equality
and solidaity. The sub!ect sees "imodial social issues which beaches
this idea that Jesus Chist intoduced to us.

instilled to us$ that the eason why social !ustice is almost none%istent as
of status quo is because of the "olai&ation of economic social classes$

+e saw the issue of lack of education in econciliation with the

about thin#s unde the sun$ when we talked to them$ thei concued with
the "oblem that the Chaiman told us and affimed that if e'e thee will
be a li'elihood semina$ they will be 'ey willin# to "atici"ate.

Seein# the "oblem$ and assessin# that we can alle'iate it$ we

the women of the community as they lean the basics of cosmetolo#y. +e

THE SITUATION
The community that ha'e hadwokin# membes$ but the
community has "oblems in #ettin# o""otunities fo thei hadwokin#
citi&ens.
The lack of education of the "eo"le in the community is somethin#
that "eo"le also see$ but we thou#ht$ that some "ominent "eo"le in the
business wold do not eally ha'e fomal education but "ue had wok.
Some of the women in the community ha'e no income to finance thei
families o at least hel" to finance thei families. This "oblem does not
only "esent in the community but also in the national s"hee.

us that as much as they eally want to attend T:SD) tainin#s$ but the fact

The moment we found out that we ae #oin# to ha'e an immesion$ many ideas
immediately "o""ed out of ou minds. :ach and one of us had ou own su##estions like
baby*sittin# at CRI2S foundation$ 'olunteein# at ****$ a cance foundation fo childen$

that teachin# childen is aleady common and it will not ha'e a lon#*tem im"act. +ewant to ha'e an immesion that will eally hel" not only duin# the times that we ae
conductin# ou immesion but also e'en afte the hous needed fo ou tem "a"e. So
we come to an a#eement to conduct a li'elihood "o#am. Ou li'elihood "o#am aims

the othe 2aan#ay Councilos. They assisted us to oam aound the baan#ay and
asked the "eo"le thee of thei time a'ailability etc. The ne%t day we went back to "ost
some "ostes and ta"aulin and we left the e#istation fom to thei secetay. The
followin# days wee allotted fo the follow*u" at community and to look fo "eo"le who
will teach ou tainees.
)nd finally last Octobe 5$ 0onday$ afte the fla# ceemony of all the baan#ay
officials at the city hall$ we stated with ou li'elihood "o#am. Ou *day "o#am went
well. It was a week*lon# acti'ity because e'en if the tainos only went thee 0+/$ we
e#ulaly check them$ the tainees$ and conduct "actices. +e also #a'e them kits thatwill hel" them stat thei own business. Ou "o#am ended last /iday$ Octobe 6$ L5.
It was indeed a tiin# but a fulfillin# acti'ity knowin# that you ha'e hel"ed not only
5L "eo"le but 5L families. I am satisfied with ou immesion because we may not ha'e
#i'en them the #and 7abuhayan Showcase8 but I know that we ha'e #i'en the
enou#h knowled#e needed fo thei !obs and I ho"e that ou sim"le kits will become

(ast week$ we had ou little outeach "o#am not that fa away fom the school.
)t fist$ ou #ou" ha'en,t had a final decision e#adin# ou immesion$ we didn,t know
whee to stat$ what kind of "o#am we should be doin#$ who to take as "atnes$ how
much will it cost$ shall we include s"onsos$ what mateials to use$ should we do this o
that. It was a total chaos. /o weeks$ we wee contem"latin# what to do. Until finally$ we
decided to #o thou#h one of the baan#ays nea San 2eda and look fo thei chaiman$
we asked if we could do a little li'elihood "o#am fo thei baan#ay and fotunately
afte se'eal sto"s$ the chaiman a#eed.
+e held a "o#am fo at least 5L to 56 women fom the baan#ay with the
assistance of the baan#ay officials$ we hied a manicuist and a hai cutte to teach
them the basics of nail and hai teatment. +e #a'e them kits containin# the necessaymateials fo them to stat a li'in# thou#h ou "o#am. It was tiin# yet at the end of the
day$ we felt #ood and fulfilled that somehow thou#h ou little effots we wee able to
hel" fo a cause and ho"efully they could use all the teachin#s we ha'e im"ated fo a
lon# tem benefit.

+e actually had a had time findin# a "lace whee we can ha'e ou immesion
until we finally found the "efect "lace to ha'e ou immesion and that was in 2aan#ay

On ou fist immesion day$ as I ta'el on my way to 2aan#ay 456$ Sam"aloc
0anila$ my mind wandeed about and thou#ht of what could the "eo"le whom we wee
#oin# to hel" "ossibly offe us that mi#ht make us think that this immesion was woth it.
+hen I ai'ed at the baan#ay hall$ The chaiman and the othe baan#ay
offices welcomed us wamly. )fte a while they stated callin# the woman who will be
benefited by ou immesion. One by one$ woman whom we wee #oin# to hel" ai'ed atthe baan#ay hall. The beautician and the cosmetolo#ist also ai'ed.
)s the abuhayan 3o#am stated$ the question that "o""ed in my head while I
was on my way to ou immesion 'enue was answeed. This was answeed by the smile
and the ea#eness to lean on thei faces. These cannot be e"laced by anythin#

Outeach "o#ams wee not new to me since in an o#ani&ation I belon#$ I
aleady en#a#ed myself fo a cou"le of times. nowin# that thee will be an immesion
as equiement fo the Theolo#y sub!ect made me think with confidence that it would be
!ust the usual outeach "o#ams that we wee conductin# befoe. 2ut it is not that easy
as I thou#ht and took it as a challen#e.
Ou #ou" decided not to #o fa fom San 2eda since thee ae neaby communities that
we can e%tend a hel"in# hand. )t fist$ we went to one baan#ay to talk to thei
baan#ay chaiman but it seems he is not inteested with ou "o"osal. So we tied to
look fo anothe baan#ay to which we can collaboate
and luckily$ 2aan#ay Chaiman Joel 0aano es"onded "om"tly. )s we inte'iew him
about what ae thei main issues in thei "lace and he then mentioned about !ob
o""otunities.
+ith the said issue$ ou #ou" chose to conduct a li'elihood "o#am to 2aa#ay456$ Sam"aloc$ 0anila in which ou #ou" will teach them how to ean income in thei
own sim"le ways. +e thou#ht of somethin# that they could use to stat a small
business. In line with this$ we asked the assistance of the baan#ay officials to look fo
ten women who ae inteested to !oin ou "o#am. Then$ we hied a manicuist and a
haidesse fom two diffeent salons$ which e'entually became ou s"onso$ who can
teach them the "o"e way to e%ecute them. +e also "o'ided kits com"isin# of basic
mateials that they could use fo the meantime. +ith all the knowled#e had been
shaed$ ou "o#am !ust not end thee but we tied to assess them if they want to fom

immesion is not the ty"e of thin# that we students would ha'e fun doin#$ "imaily
because it demands a lot of time and of couse$ a bi# deal of effot. Thee ae a lot of
thin#s to be done. +e ha'e to be able to fill u" cetain "a"es$ we ha'e to come u" with
a "lan$ we ha'e to think of a "lace fo immesion and we ha'e to talk and ne#otiate with
se'eal "eo"le. Definitely$ it,s not an easy task$ es"ecially considein# the fact that we
need to s"end hous in a "aticula aea which may not be comfotable fo us.
Unfotunately$ ha'in# an immesion is one of ou equiements$ and we ha'e no choice

of ladies. +e asked hel" fom thei chaiman and he immediately a#eed with us.
