KBR’s trac engineering team understands the importance of minimizing congestion and delays. Our team employs the latest trac simulation modeling tools to test, with a great level of detail, the anticipated trac operations according to projected trac volumes and transportation networks.

e KBR Team performs an accurate alternatives analysis to make recommendations for cost-eective trac improvement measures, minimizing projected trac congestion. Specic alternatives are evaluated in order to move people and freight eciently throughout the network.

Alternatives range from trac control optimizations (as in the case of signal timings or checkpoints), to travel demand management strategies (such as the use of transit or exible work schedules), all the way to capital infrastructure including added capacity projects.

Our clients can visualize their options virtually and prepare their implementation plan ahead of time avoiding potential costly mistakes associated with eld experimentation.

e advantage is clear: zero risk.

KBR is uniquely positioned to execute trac simulation studies for mega-construction projects as our highly experienced trac engineers routinely prepare this type of specialized consulting work for many government sector clients. is work is paired with Engineering-Procurement-Construction (EPC) experts in construction logistics, freight proling, operations processes, and construction labor curves. As a result, the study process saves countless man-hours in productivity and millions of dollars, with cost-ecient designed trac measures and infrastructure improvements for both project construction and operations.

From popular travel demand models (e.g. EMME2) to deterministic trac signal timing optimization models (e.g. Synchro) to the more robust microscopic simulation models such as Aimsun, KBR owns many dierent applications to choose from, depending on specic conditions and analytical level of detail required by the project. Among these useful applications are custom-built tools which seamlessly transfer data between these dierent models.

Typically, trac simulation studies involve the following tasks: 1. Data collection, including initial coordination

meetings aimed to capture existing trac and geometric network conditions, study area boundaries and timeframes, model calibration parameters, and key assumptions.

2. Trac forecasting which involves predicting and allocating project-generated trac using a strict four-step methodology (trip generation, distribution, modal choice, and route assignment).

3. Simulation model development which, if possible, begins with the replication of an existing conditions model that goes through a calibration and validation process.

4. Alternative Analyses. From the base model, specic alternatives are evaluated in order to move people and freight eciently throughout the network.

5. A congestion mitigation plan is developed to include a combination of successful alternative strategies. 6. Final results are delivered in a report which outline assumptions, summarize trac measure of

eectiveness obtained from the dierent model outputs, and provide recommendations.

Our trac simulation team has already proven these modeling tools in the following ve recent mega Engineering-Procurement-Construction (EPC) projects for which KBR has been responsible to eectively manage the movement generated of up to 75,000 people on the peak hour and up to 275,000 Ton/Mo of freight traveling through existing city networks.

In summary, KBR traffic simulation team has a unique combination of extensive project experience, technical expertise, and proven modeling tools. e trac simulation process has, enabled us to provide our clients and stakeholders a powerful trac management product which allows them to visualize trac impacts the same way they would experience it in real life.
