People-Centred Land Governance

All members of ILC commit to:

1. respect, protect and strengthen the land rights of women and men living in poverty

2. ensure equitable land distribution and public investment that supports small-scale farming systems

3. recognize and protect the diverse tenure and production systems upon which people’s livelihoods depend

4. ensure gender justice in relation to land

5. respect and protect the inherent land and territorial rights of indigenous peoples

6. enable the role of local land users in territorial and ecosystem management

7. ensure that processes of decision-making over land are inclusive

8. ensure transparency and accountability

9. prevent and remedy land grabbing

10. respect and protect the civil and political rights of human rights defenders working on land issues

NEEDS

• Members want to learn from each other and share their experiences

• Demand for concrete guidance on PCLG

GOALS

• Collect and disseminate the experiences of the coalitionthat can generate the change we want

• Document cases that we believe could/should be replicated or scaled up.

The structure of the database

The DB collects case studies of good practices for:

each of the 10 commitments

all regions (Africa, Latin America, Asia) and global

different areas of change (practices, policy changes, knowledge)
