Padlet/Maptini
Introduction /launch of PBL task as whole class activity
It is important that students recognise what they already know
about the topic. Since this is year 4, they will have covered some
history topics in year 3. I chose the padlet function because it is an
easy exposure to ICT mind mapping for students because it
operates in 'real time', but is only effective if everyone has a laptop
or iPad to contribute from. The alternative of padlet is maptini, while
it is an app through iTunes it is also available for use on laptops.
This means the teacher can use it on the IWB and have students
come and interact with it, and it has options to share export or
embed into a website or flipped classroom site such as edmodo.
The other added feature of padlet is that you can dress it up and
make it more appealing to students, Maptini really only changes
colour and has no image functionality at all.
ICT ResourcesCourse Notes
Introduction / launch of groups to organise and sort roles and information
As with any launch of project based learning, student require take
up time to sort out the question and what steps will be needed by
each group member. Since this is a young group (8-9yrs) they are
not familiar with this learning style. So teacher monitoring and
guidance is essential. Course notes designed by Dear Panda LLC
is a way that students can record in audio or typed notes from their
iPad/iPods and smart phones and then sync them to other devices.
It is a great way for students to get out all the information they have
just received and allows them to reflect at regular intervals like the
end of the term or year about the learning they encountered.
Maps Introduction of project. Student page
The Australian language map was used on the homepage of the
weebly to help link the Australian Curriculum; First contacts strand
and the elaboration that is the focus of this unit of work. Each
language group is catered for in this visually appealing graphic and
students could also implement this in their findings as they
progress in the project if they so choose.
ICT ResourcesBitsrips comic
Introduction of project. Student page
A comic strip was used to enhance the learning journey. Rather
than have use many hyperlinks, students can read the comic strip
and retain valuable information. Characters in comic form are an
effective way for students to remember and recall information. It will
also expose them to this ICT tool which they can embed into their
presentation.
Hyperlinks
Student Page & Wiki
Hyperlinks are used throughout the entire weebly and wiki sites.
They provide quick access to information that is contained on an
internal and external sites. Hyperlinks are how I connected the
wikispace to the weebly and added the YouTube welcome video for
the on the wiki. To assist students in their learning, I included a
series of hyperlinked sites that they can follow, and these are found
in the buttons to the right of the student page.
wiki Images send powerful messages, they convey ideas and
information to the reader which support the learning journey. I have
ICT Resourcesused Aboriginal artefacts to help convey the idea of Aboriginal
times and digital image wheels to demonstrate ICT or web 2.0
tools.
Audioboo files
Design Rationale
Audio files or podcasts were a novel way of delivering the design
rationale into the website, instead of block text. I had not made a
podcast before and thought this would be great way to learn.
Students working through their projects had the chance to record
information onto their mobile devices or easi-speak microphone
and then add it to the sound file which is then embedded into a
website.
HTML codes
Headings in the student pages
One of the tools I discovered in my first assessment was the HTML
code. Weebly's make it so easy to incorporate these into the design
and made the website very attractive and student friendly to look at.
Teaching students this ICT tool is going to open up their creative
flare for presentation in the final weeks. Ultimately, students fluent
in this technology could navigate toward a text minimal assessment
