DEADMAN FALLWHO: Des McCabe (vocals/bass/percussion), VincentBrownlow (guitar/vocals),Kevin McLaughlin (guitar/vocals), Gareth McLeod(drums/vocals)WHERE: Glasgow / Cumber-nauldFOR FANS OF: Beck, NewOrder, The StrokesJIM SAYS: Dead Man Fall hitthe headlines at the end oflast year when Scots come-dian Craig Ferguson chosetheir song Bang Your Drum aspart of his final Late LateShow in the States.

The band made initial con-tact with Ferguson via twitter ayear ago. Vinnie said: “I justsent him our video asking if hecould retweet it if he liked it.

“Five minutes later he sentme a direct message sayinghe wanted us on the show.

“We went from nothing tobeing asked over to LA to playlive on a massive chat show.

“The visa process tookmonths and we didn’t evenget to the interview stage. Weweren’t well-known enough.”

You wouldn’t think thatNOTappearing on a TV showwould give you an even big-ger break. Instead of the bandappearing in person, some ofthe world’s biggest celebritieslip-synced the track.

Quentin Tarantino, MilaKunis, Matthew McCo-naughey, Samuel L Jacksonand even Archbishop Des-mond Tutu were among thosethat took part in the star-stud-

ded montage. It then cut backto Craig singing it live in thestudio. It paid immediate divi-dends with Bang Your Drumshooting up the US iTuneschart. Not bad for a band with-out a record deal, manage-ment, agent or PR company.

Their profile increasedgreatly on this side of theAtlantic as well. Vinnie said:“The week before it happenedwe played to about 10 people.A few weeks later we wereselling out King Tut’s.”

The guys have a furtherchance to shine in a couple ofweeks, as one of the unsignedacts selected to play the TBreak stage at T In The Park.

Kev said “We’re absolutelybuzzing, especially with thisbeing the first year at Strathal-lan. It’s going to be a specialatmosphere. With everythingthat’s happened over the lastyear, playing T In The Park is agreat achievement thatmeans a lot us. Hopefully, itwill lead to some excitingopportunities and we canpush on from there.”

Dead Man Fall play a coupleof shows ahead of their TBreak appearance on Friday,July 10. They’re at Cafe Conti-nental in Gourock next Thurs-day, and they’ve been invitedby Tennent’s to play The ThreeSisters in Edinburgh the fol-lowing night as part of the T InThe Pub series of official T InThe Park warm-ups.MORE: facebook.com/dead-manfalllJim presents Drivetime on XFMScotland, Monday to Friday 4-7pm.xfm.co.uk jimgellatly.com

IF you want to blow off somesteam, then Glaswegian rockersDivides have got you covered.Their crunching single Spidersis a hell of a track. It’s angsty and vocalist TashaCowie is almost spitting acid, rather than singing. The band is a five-piece — withTasha joining drummer DavidMaxwell, guitarist David Lennon,Colin Horn and bassist AndyCook.Listen to Spiders and the otherT Break acts now at ten-nents.com/tbreak

THERE are just two weeks until TIn The Park 2015 blasts off.And the new home at Strathal-lan Castle will feature the famousunsigned T Break Stage, wherethe likes of The View, Biffy Clyroand Snow Patrol all started. Here’s a chat with one of our 16young T Break acts aiming forglory next month . . .

GEEZER Gerry Cinna-mon knows his ownworth — and he isn’tafraid to let othersknow about it.

The boy from Castlemilk,Glasgow has a hardcore fol-lowing . . . and they’re all

coming with him to T InThe Park.

Gerry raved: “They’ll needa bigger tent for me.

“I’ve got an army coming,it’s going to be packed out.

“I’ve always wanted to doeverything off my ownback.

“I’ve already sold outKing Tut’s twice — that’sjust from doing demos onmy own.

“People learned the lyricsthrough YouTube.

“But now I’m ready forthis at T In The Park. I’m

going to take it to the nextlevel.”

Gerry’s major problem isself-control . . .

He’s playing on the finalday, Sunday, but has beenbanned from arriving anyearlier.

Moving so fastHe said: “I’m choking to go

up on the Friday — I love itand I’ve been going since Iwas kid.

“But I don’t want to turnup on stage with paint allover my face, with no shirton, asking people ‘has anyonegot a loan of a guitar?’

“My manager told me he’sgoing up on the Sunday too, just to be on the safe side.

“I’ve got no faith in myselfeither.”

Gerry has had a great lastsix months, mainly due to bigsingle Campfire Vampire, buthe’s determined to savour hisT Break appearance.

He added: “Things aremoving so fast, but I’m goingto make a point of enjoyingevery moment.

“And I will make it count —how many bands have goneon from T Break and younever hear about them again?

“So I’m seeing it, as theopportunity I’ve been waitingfor.

“I want it to be a goodshow, anything else is aby-product of how good thegig was.

“I’ve got a few weeks to get

a bit of focus. Recently, it’sbeen mayhem, so it hasn’tsunk in.

“T In The Park is a boy-hood dream of mine. They’vebrought on a lot of bandsthrough T Break, so to bepart of that is exciting andI’m absolutely buzzing.”

Fans also have the chanceto invest in Gerry. He’s run-ning a drive to fund hisdebut album.

Gerry said: “It’s self-funded,people can choose if theywant to get it on vinyl orwith a lyric sheet.

“I don’t know how thisother option ended up onthere, but for £750 they canget me to play in their livingroom. I’ll end up with somemaniac kidnapping me andchaining me up in their cel-lar. I’ve raised half the moneyso far.

On a barge“I am building a wee studio

in my house. My songs gofrom the floor to the ceiling— there’s tons of them.

“I have about 200 to recordbefore I spontaneously com-bust. I’ll use the money tobuy more equipment andrecord it all myself.”

Gearing up for T, Gerrywowed Eden Festival inDumfries earlier this month.

And he’s looking for moreof the same at Strathallan.

He added: “I have still notrecovered from it. It wasincredible. You couldn’t getinto a fight if you were paid— it was all hippies. Even thelights were buried in theground.

“I ended up playing on abarge in the middle of aswamp, I was up all nightbefore it — and I was playingin a woolly jumper with thesun beating down.

“I had tears in my eyes —but I smashed it.”l Donate to Gerry’s debut albumat pledgemusic.com/projects/ger-rycinnamon
