HTO 80 120 180 300HTO Pump – Sales vs. Competition
Cost leader vs. competition
Compact size requires less space than competition
No cooling water needed, reduces auxiliary equipment, and opportunity for oil/water mixing
Close coupled-no shaft alignments-less hassle
No sleeve bearings to wear out
Impeller is closer to supporting bearing
Less heat transferred out of the system; less energy required to be replaced
HTO 80 120 180 300HTO Pump – Reliability – Longer MTBF
Lower temperatures in the seal cavity greatly improves mechanical seal life
HTO pumps lower seal cavity oil temperatures (<350°F)
Coking between faces accelerates seal wear and shortens seal life
Lower temperatures, less coking, longer seal life, longer MTBF
Longer MTBF, less maintenance costs
HTO pumps provide several thousands of hours service life between rebuilds.
HTO 80 120 180 300HTO Pump – Markets Served
Asphalt Chemical Electronics Food Heat Transfer Metals Mining Paper
Pharmaceuticals Plastics Recycling Renewable energy Rubber Wood
DRYERS - used to evaporate liquids from solids (mining, food, printing, paper).
EXCHANGERS - transfer of energy between fluids of differing temperatures (chemical, pharmaceutical, plastics, metals, polymers, melting).
LINE TRACING - hollow tube or jacket on outside of pipe to keep material inside warm (plastics, asphalt, food).

HTO 80 120 180 300HTO Pump – System Applications
MOLDS – keeps plastic molds hot allowing material to flow evenly through mold cavities.
OVENS – used on hot oil moving through cooking/baking coils.
PRESSES – platens are heated for bonding (plywood, rubber, circuit boards).
ROLLS – Hot oil circulates through rolls that press and bond laminates.
TANKS / VESSELS – Hot oil circulates through jackets around holding tanks.

Solar energy – heat transfer fluid moving heat thru the system
HTO 80 120 180 300HTO Series – Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How can I pump hot oil above 400°F and have a Viton fitted seal survive?A: The seal in the HTO pump runs in a cooled environment where the temperature
will be less than 350 degrees.Q: When the pump is stopped at temperature will the seal temperature
spike?A: Even though the seal is cooled by a fan attached to the shaft when the pump is
stopped the seal temperature will not spike. The seal cavity temperature will fall due to the low thermal conductivity isolation system. Controlled temperature ramp down is not required.
Q: Can the pump be mounted vertically?A: Yes but the seal cavity may need to be vented on cold startup to remove the air
trapped inside so that the seal does not run dry.Q: Where should the pump be installed in the system?A: The HTO pump should be installed downstream of the heating load and at a
low elevation point in the system where the flow leaving the pump will be pumped into the heater. Isolation valves for the pump are recommended.
HTO 80 120 180 300HTO Series – Frequently Asked Questions (cont.)
Q: Will the motor bearings be affected by the heat from the pump?A: The ball bearing will have a higher temperature than when installed onto a
conventional pump. In most cases the bearing temperature will not exceed 180°F
Q: On initial start-up will the seal run dry?A: No, but there will be air inside the seal cavity that will move out into the normal
process flow path over time. The best system fill technique is to bottom fill the system to remove the most air during the fill.
Q: Can the pump be insulated?A: Yes, but only the pump housing as the rest of the pump needs to have air
circulate over it for cooling.Q: Can the pump be mounted inside a closed cabinet?A: Yes, but the temperature inside the cabinet must not exceed the operating
temperature of the electric motor. Good practice is to ventilate the cabinet at the fan cover of the motor for inlet air and locate exhaust vents near the pump housing. Higher ambient temps will increase the seal temperature.
HTO 80 120 180 300HTO Series – Frequently Asked Questions (cont.)
Q: Can the HTO pump be used in applications where the process temperature varies?
A: Yes, the seal temperature will not vary as greatly as the process because of the isolation design.
Q: Is MTBF predictable?A: Every application is different including the quality of the oil. MTBF can be
monitored initially and then it should be repeatable assuming that the oil and other system parameters are consistent.
Q: How important is oil quality to the life of the pump seal?A: The quality of the oil is as important to the seal as dirt and contamination is to
a ball bearing. If the process is made to conform to the oil manufacturers recommendations seal life may approach several years of continuous use.
Q: Can the HTO pump be operated at 1750 RPM’s?A: Yes, while the speed at which the integral fan clamp is turning is slower, it still
moves enough air across the seal housing to remove an acceptable amount of heat. It is important to remember that due to the design of the pump the isolator bushings are the major factor in protecting the mechanical seal against the high process temperature.
