How to order Intertype Matrices

So that we may fill orders promptly and correctly without having to write for more information,with consequent loss of time, please follow these instructions carefully.

A C C E N T S A N D S P E C I A L C H A R A C T E R S .These also should be ordered on printed orderblanks (supplied free of charge) stating face, facenumber, point size and character number in thecase of accents, and the point size and characternumber in the case of special characters. Customers requiring special matrices (not listed) shouldwrite for quotations, submitting a clear sketch orsample of what is wanted. When ordering specialcharacters, specify whether they are to run as pisorts or in the magazine; if the latter, state thec h a n n e l i n w h i c h e a c h c h a r a c t e r i s t o r u n .

State if Low Cap Accents (6 E), or NormalHigh Cap Accents (£! E) or Small Cap Accents(e e) are to be supplied.NOTE.—Low Cap and Small Cap Accents willcast with ordinary caps of same face. NormalHigh Cap Accents can be cast by using a special"normal high cap accent" mould, and liners 1 pt.above size of face (or normal for didot sizes).

Unlessotherwise ordered, EN set fractions are supplied.Piece fractions are also available, a comprehensiveshowing of which is made on the Special CharacterMatrices, Sheet eleven. LEADERS. Unless otherwise instructed, regular3 round-dot (...) leaders will be supplied. Round-dot leaders with 2 (,.), 3 (...), or 6 ( ) dots to theem and hyphen leaders with 6 (. ) strokes to theem can be supplied if specified when ordering.

Where 6-dot em leaders are required, the figurespace can be supplied with 3-dot leaders.

FIGURES. When ordering old style faces, specifywhether old style figures (890) or modernised oldstyle figures (890) are desired. If no specific directions are furnished, modernised old style figureswill generally be supplied. When ordering figuresof any kind, state whether they are to run in themagazine or pi.

NOTE.—Figures and points are usually madeon a 4-2-1 ratio, that is, figures on one-half theem body and thin spaces, etc., on one-quarter ofthe em body. However, when the figure size offace is less than 0553" the points and th inspaces are usually made on a size equal to threeto the em body.

spaces are too thin to be distributed into the magazine. They have no combination teeth and dropout into the front pi bowl.

THE CHANNEL ENTRANCES of In ter typemagazines are variably spaced. This permits thefree use of larger faces. For instance, an 18-pointcap W of normal width will run in an Intertypemagazine, but not in all the magazines of othermakes. Em spaces, leaders and dashes up to 221thousandths of an inch will run in the regularchannels of standard Intertype magazines, butfigure spaces, leaders and dashes must be substituted in some magazines of other makes when theem s ize exceeds 210 thousandths o f an inch.

A M E R I C A N D E P T H M A T R I C E S . F o r t h e c o nvenience of overseas users, a large number of ourtype faces are made in American depth as well asEnglish depth. Matrices made in English depth aredesignated by the symbol [E]. Matrices so designated have a letter depth of 075" while Americandepth matrices have a letter depth of 043".Special height moulds and special equipment mustbe used for American depth matrices.
