• Set up an account• Download it from www.Skype.com• Choose a username– Professional– Close to your actual name– OR—Combine your industry with

your name Example: jsmith_writer– Professional Photo

Make sure you get this set up well in advance of your call and

practice having a conversation with someone online.

Get Comfortable with the Process

• Eliminate technical glitches

• Practice with friends and relatives

• Get comfortable with the technology

• Get feedback

• Lighting– Make sure you have good skin color

• Sound– Microphone and Speaker are in good

working order (don’t have one—buy it)

• Internet Connection• Charge your battery (laptop)• Dress appropriately– Dark suit (light colors wash out skin tones)– Ladies adjust your makeup

• Sit up straight• Look at the camera – Make eye contact– Don’t look at the computer screen– Don’t sit too close

• Smile and be enthusiastic– Body language is more difficult to read
