About Peninsula Health Peninsula Health is the major metropolitan health service for Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula area. We care for a population of 300,000 people, which swells to over 400,000 during the peak tourism seasons between December and March. We care for our community across the life continuum from maternity and obstetric services, paediatrics, emergency medicine, critical care, surgical and general medicine, rehabilitation, and oncology, through to aged care and palliative care. We also provide extensive services in acute and community mental health as well as a number community health services, health promotion and education, and ambulatory care. With over 6,000 staff and 700 volunteers, our dedicated and highly skilled team work together to provide world-class care, close to the home of consumers and families on the Frankston Mornington Peninsula. Rosebud Hospital
Rosebud Hospital provides care to the Southern end of the Peninsula. It provides emergency care, general medical care,
rehabilitation and radiology services. Community Health services are also operated from this site.

The Mornington Centre
The Mornington Centre is a purpose built 90 bed Geriatric Evaluation and Management facility. The Mornington Centre
provides a full range of specialist medical, nursing and allied health services. On admission, patients are assessed by our
clinical team and undertake an individualised therapy program.

Golf Links Road Rehabilitation Centre
The Golf Links Road site houses a number of Peninsula Health’s Community and Continuing Care Services. Services include:
rehabilitation (including physiotherapy, speech pathology and occupational therapists), prosthetics, social work,
hydrotherapy and gym access and palliative care.

The Mental Health team provides services for our community through Youth (16-25 years), Adult (26-64 years) and Aged

Carinya Residential Aged Care Service
Carinya is a 26-bed purpose built Aged Persons Mental Health Residential Care Facility designed to provide high level
specialist nursing care to residents with complex mental health diagnoses who are unable to be managed effectively in a
generic aged care facility.

Our Medical Workforce Team The Medical Workforce Team supports the Junior and Senior Medical Staff with recruitment, registration, visa application,
contracting, remuneration and credentialing. Interns and Residents in the general program are managed by the department.
Registrars and direct appointed Residents (eg. Psychiatry) and Senior Medical Staff are managed by the individual
department in conjunction with the Medical Workforce Team.

How many HMOs are at Peninsula Health?
Peninsula Health will have approximately 100 Resident positions in 2022. These positions are split up into the following
streams:
• General Stream
• Medical (Basic Physician Training)
• Surgical
• Critical Care
What criteria do Peninsula Health use for selecting HMOs?
Applications will only be accepted via Peninsula Health’s online recruitment system eRecruit.

Does Peninsula Health interview applicants?
There will be no face-to-face interviews held. Instead, candidates will be interviewed via an online platform. Due to the
sheer volume of applications only shortlisted applicants will be offered an interview. Interviews will take place during July –
August.

What rotations will I do and where?
During your clinical year, you will undertake four rotations that have the following durations:
General, Critical Care and Surgical Stream
• 4 x 13 weeks
Basic Physician Training (BPT1)
• 4x 10
• 1x 12

applicants to review our websites and all available information provided.
How are rotations allocated/determined?
You will be able to preference your rotations and annual leave via an online survey which will occur after the offer and
contracting period. This information is used to assist the Medical Workforce team allocate rotations based on the best fit for
everyone. Once rotations are finalised and published they will not be changed without a discussion with you.

What about annual leave?
Five weeks in total annual leave is rostered across your 52 week rotation allocation plan. Your annual leave preferences will
be requested during the rotation allocation. Two weeks annual leave is rostered across your 52 week roster. Please ensure
that you add any additional comments to your request to aid in the allocation process e.g. weddings, family reunions etc. We
do try out best to accommodate all requests but this is dependent upon cover availability and operational needs of the
hospital.
Will I do night duty?
HMOs will participate in night duty at Peninsula Health. This could be a part of a particular unit’s rotating roster or a specific
night’s rotation.
Am I paid under an Award?
The current Award which covers Junior Medical Staff (Interns through to Specialty Registrars) is commonly known as the
“Victorian Public Health Sector (AMA Victoria) – Doctors in Training (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2018-
2021”. Our junior medical staff are employed according to the current/relevant Agreement.
Education, support and wellbeing The Medical Education Team supports the learning, professional development and wellbeing of prevocational medical staff.
The team coordinate your orientation program, weekly education sessions and the provision of regular feedback from your
supervisors. We support junior doctor wellbeing by providing access to both internal and external support networks, a
mentoring program and regular wellbeing sessions.
What is Orientation like?
The HMO and Registrar Orientation Program is a compulsory program that runs on the first Monday of Term 1 and Term 3.
The program ticks off not only corporate orientation but Human Resource and Clinical issues that are relevant to your
employment at Peninsula Health.
What education is available?
Peninsula Health offers extensive education opportunities for Junior Medical Staff through on- the-job opportunities,
tutorials, simulation and workshops. Our dedicated Medical Education Officer, Term supervisors and the Director Clinical
Training supports HMOs both on clinical and wellbeing aspects. Monthly HMO teaching sessions are available for residents to
attend as well as a dedicated unit session in all specialties. There is also the Grand Rounds available for all staff to attend.
What about supervision and support?
Each term has a nominated supervisor. The DCTs and MEO provide additional learning and wellbeing support to interns, when
needed.
The Medical Workforce Unit will also provide support and guidance as appropriate. They will be your first point of contact in
most instances with regards to annual leave, conference leave, payroll, recruitment queries and whole myriad of other
questions that may come about. They are responsible for submitting your intern certificate to AHPRA upon successful
completion of your 47 weeks. All Peninsula Health staff are your support base, NUMs and ANUMs, HMOs, Registrars,
Consultants, Allied Health, Contact Centre, we are One Peninsula Health.
