Adult Instruction Class
Adult Instruction: Pastor Jason will be leading an Adult Instruction
Class beginning Sunday, January 5th at 9:30am in the classroom
across from the church office. The class is offered as an introduction
to the Lutheran Church for those who want to join the
congregation, but it is also great for long-time members as a
refresher of the basics of the faith.
A great idea from another congregation is that members are
encouraged to take the class every five years - so even if you’ve
been Lutheran for a long time, consider coming. If you or someone
you know are interested in taking the class, please sign up in the
Friendship Room or mention it to Pastor Jason.
The Hope budget no longer includes gifts for staff members. If you wish to
give a Christmas gift to a staff member, please do so individually to show
your appreciation for their faithful service. Hope staff members are:
Pastor Wagner, Stephanie Dexter, Julie Wagner, Rebecca Cain,
Megan Jacobs, Alica Jaderkova and Karl Hoffmann.
The Lord be with you.
Hope Lutheran Board of Elders
With Christmas upon us, none of the midweek Bible Classes will meet this week or next. ▪ Tuesday Ladies Bible Class will resume January 7th. ▪ Wednesday Evening Bible Class will resume January 8th. ▪ Thursday Men’s Bible Class will resume January 9th.
The Circle of Friends thank you for making our Cookie Sale so successful! So many people sacrificed their diets by purchasing
baked goods and some members even donated their culinary delights for others to buy. God Bless you!!
Thrivent Funds were used to purchase food for six families at
Hope. What a blessing that Hope qualified for these special
funds! Thank you to all the people who made this program
possible!
Praise the Lord for good news, Janet Hoskins is cancer free. Thank you, Hope congregation, for all for the prayers and calls during this time.

Portals of Prayer for Oct. - Dec 2019 are in the Friendship Room. We understand that some of you take multiple books for your family, friends, etc. That’s great! We are increasing the number of books that we order. Please consider giving a small offering in the box that is next to the devotional books. Our group subscription allows us to get the books for about $1 each. If you can’t give right now, PLEASE still take the devotionals and share them. Even a small offering will allow us to order and share more of God’s Word.
Merry Christmas! There are new Christmas cards available
for your choosing in the Friendship Room.
There is a birthday this month:

Please take some time to review the Bible readings below,
they will be the subject of next week’s sermon.
December 29, 2019 Isaiah 63:7–14 Galatians 4:4–7 Matthew 2:13–23 Herod’s efforts to destroy the little Lord Jesus anticipate the cross for which He was born. In response to Herod’s edict, Joseph must “take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt” (Matt. 2:13). But the Lord does not abandon the Holy Family there. He brings about salvation for all people, just as He “had spoken by the prophet, ‘Out of Egypt I called my son’” (Matt. 2:15). With might and strength, God accompanies His people, causing “his glorious arm to go at the right hand of Moses” (Is. 63:12). Now through Jesus, even our afflictions are borne by Christ on the cross. “He redeemed them; he lifted them up and carried them” (Is. 63:9). All of this is accomplished by God’s might so that we, too, are claimed as members of His family. For we “receive adoption as sons” in the only begotten Son, Christ Jesus, even as He became like us by His conception and birth of the woman. Thus redeemed by Christ, no longer slaves of sin and death but beloved children and heirs of God, we pray in Jesus’ name: “Abba! Father!” (Gal. 4:4–6).
Life Thought in the Church Year
The Gospel has adopting at its heart. Joseph took Mary’s baby for his own (Matthew 1:24), and man
adopts the God who had adopted His created beings as His children. We rejoice both to own this grace and to enact it unto others. It energizes us to receive every
child as gift instead of as a right. And God extends this opportunity to any Christian home, not just those
experiencing infertility!

Support our 2019 LHF Sunday School Mission Project
Over the past 7 years, Hope's Sunday school mission projects
have put 2,500 Bible story books in the hands of people around the
world in their native language! What a blessing you all have been!
Please consider continuing to support Lutheran Heritage
Foundation this year as we send children's Bible Story books to
Spanish-speaking countries. For every $5, one book can be
translated & given to a child who may be hearing about Christ for the
very first time. Place your offering in an envelope marked- Sunday
School Mission Project- and put it in the offering plate or Julie
Wagner's mailbox. Thank you for your support in spreading the
Gospel of Jesus Christ!
