INTRODUCTIONThis manual provides the user with a step by step sequence of howto erect an EIGER 500 Aluminium Tower using the 3 T Method. The3 T applies to both Single and Double Width Towers, the enclosedillustrations show erection sequences for both. The sequence isdifferent for Even Platform Heights such as 2.20, 4.20, 6.20 mtrs etcand Odd Platform Heights such as 3.20, 5.20, 7.2 mtrs as shown.Prior to erection of the tower the user should familiarise himselffully with the contents of this document and pay particular regardto the various safety notes herein. On handover of the structure toany third party, a copy of these instructions should be passed overto ensure that they are aware of the permitted uses of the tower.
Safety NotesTwo operatives are required to erect the towers detailed in this manual.
Check that the ground upon which the tower is to be used is capable of withstanding the combined weight of the tower and any necessaryloading.
The maximum safe working load per individual platform is 294kguniformly distributed. Refer to page 17 for overall loadings.
Temporary means of gaining additional height e.g. stepladders or trestlesplaced on the top of the working platform must not be used.
Access to or from the working platform must be gained only via theladder access provided. In all cases the user must climb within thestructure of the tower – never by climbing the outer face of the tower.
Tower components must be raised/lowered in a controlled manner, neverthrown or dropped. If using a rope, a reliable knot such as a clovehitchor timber hitch should be employed. No hoisting arrangements shouldbe used without specific design from the manufacturer.

Where restricted ground space prohibits the attachment of stabilisersphysical ties (see page 8) or ballast weights must be employed – in suchcircumstances the supplier should be consulted for guidance.
Prior to erection, check via component schedules that all necessary partsare available and that they are in good working order.

Repositioning of ComponentsSome Towers require the repositioning of components during the erectionsequence. Please refer to component repositioning table on page 17 of thisinstruction manual before commencing erection.
Moving the TowerCheck that the course to be followed is free of ground or overheadobstructions e.g. roof trusses, electricity cables, raised manhole/gratingsetc. The tower shall be moved only by manual pushing near to its base – never by any mechanical means such as forklift/towing etc. Great caremust be taken when moving a tower over uneven ground. Stabilisersshould be raised a minimum amount but not greater than 12mm (1/2")to clear the ground of any obstructions and the top platform height mustnot exceed 2.5 times the smallest base dimension. Neither men normaterials should be present on the tower while it is being moved.
Having re-sited the tower ensure that it is still level and that the stabilisersare correctly adjusted and secure. Ensure that the castors are relocked.Check that no environmental changes influence the safe use of the tower.

WORKING LEVELThe maximum safe working load per working level is 588Kg on DoubleWidth Towers, 294Kg on Single Width. A working level is created by theuse of 2 platforms DW, 1 Platform SW. The maximum number of workinglevels per tower is 2.
COMPLETE TOWER STRUCTUREThe maximum safe working load of the Tower structure including selfweight and ballast is 1,000Kgs.

USING THE TOWERWind conditions have a considerable bearing on the safe use of a tower.Due regard must be paid to certain circumstances where wind conditionsare magnified e.g. in long open-ended buildings, between buildingswhere the wind may have a funnelling effect, or where the tower ispositioned close to the corner of a building. Never attach tarpaulins orother covering to a tower without first seeking the suppliers advice.

STEP 3Fit trapdoor platform onto 6th rung(3.20 mtr level) above the ladder.
STEP 4Locate 4 rung frames and fit diagonalsonto lowest rungs, attach stabilisers toeach corner.
STEP 5Access the platform and secureguardrail braces and diagonal brace at opposite end of tower.
STEP 6Fit Toeboard assembly.
Dismantling the Eiger 500 using the3 T MethodRemove Toeboard set and pass down the tower. Detach the furthest endof the 4 Guardrail and 1 Diagonal Brace and immediately go toprotected trapdoor position on ladder frame to detach braces fully.Reverse steps 7 to 1.

STEP 1Fit trapdoor platform onto 2nd rung of 4 rung frame, attach 4 guardrail braces onto both sides of platform on 3rd and 4th rungs from the ground. Fit diagonal braces.
STEP 2Access the tower through trapdoorplatform, locate 4 rung frames and fitdiagonal braces and stabilisers.

Stability of TowerStabilisers shall always be fitted where specified, these increase theeffective base area of the tower and increase its stability as a free standingstructure. Best effect is obtained from the stabilisers when they arearranged in a footprint as near to a square. (See Fig. 1) When using thetower against a strong wall they may be positioned as at Fig. 2, but thewall must be at least 2/3 of the height of the top working platform. Towersto be left unattended in exposed positions should be tied to a securestructure or alternatively dismantled. Horizontal forces, such as thatexerted against the tower during drilling into a building face, can generateinstability in the structure and must not be used as a means of access toany adjacent structure. Towers are not designed to be suspended.
Installation of StabilisersWhen locating stabilisers on towers, maximum stability will be achievedby positioning at an angle of 45°. Extend stabiliser leg to maximumadjustment and ensure that the top coupler is positioned to theunderside of the casting. Securely lock the top coupler before attachingthe lower arm to the frame upright. Ensure that the rubber foot is incontact with the ground surface.

Tying-inThe towers in this manual are designed for use as free standing units up to heights of 8m OUTDOORS/12m INDOORS. Towers in excess of these heights, where the optimum base dimensions cannot be achieved,will need to be tied to a secure structure. Special couplers, which will accommodate the differing diameters ofscaffold tube and alloy tube, are available from your supplier. Typical tiearrangements can be found below. Manufacturers instructions should befollowed where anchor bolts are to be used.

Aluminium towers are designed to be erected and dismantled by operativeslacking in intensive skills and training. Provided that the erector can interpretthe basic instructions in the suppliers manual and can competently check thefinished structure then no problems should arise. PASMA recognise,however, that increasingly more specific training in the use of this type ofequipment is required. PASMA therefore sponsors a training course basedon a format agreed by all its member companies, the content of which hasbeen devised from their collective experience in all the industry. Hence it hasgreat value as a training programme and is widely recognised by the Health& Safety Executive as being the industry benchmark. Further details on thisprogramme are available on request.
ERECTION SEQUENCE For Double Width 1450 Tower
4.20 Mtr Platform HeightFrom the component schedules in this manual ensure that you have allthe parts necessary to complete the tower and check that they are in aserviceable condition.
Some Towers require the repositioning of components during the erectionsequence. Please refer to component repositioning table on page 17 ofthis instruction manual before commencing erection.
Ensure that the base onto which the tower will be erected is reasonablylevel and is capable of supporting the weight of the tower and its load.
Ensure that the interlock clips are disengaged. Two men will be neededto erect the tower in a safe manner.

STEP 9Climb ladder and using the trapdoorplatform for protection sit with bothfeet on the ladder fit 4 guardrailbraces onto 9th and 10th rungs toboth sides of tower.
STEP 10Access the platform and secureGuardrails and Diagonal brace atopposite end of tower. NOTE: Ifbuilding the tower beyond the 4.20mtr level, continue with steps 4 and5 until desired working height isachieved, then follow step 8.
STEP 11Fit Toeboard assembly.

STEP 1Insert castor / adjustable leg assembliesinto base of 2 rung ladder frame and onestandard end frame, allowingapproximately 75mm of extended leg forlevelling. Press down firmly on breakingmechanism to lock castors.
STEP 2Fit a horizontal (Red) brace onto thevertical member of one frame, restingdirectly onto the alloy casting at thefirst horizontal rung position. Ensurethat the sprung trigger faces to theoutside of the tower.
STEP 3Join second base frame to first ensuringbrace hook again rests directly ontoalloy casting. Fit second horizontalbrace in corresponding position. Levelaround base of tower by using a spiritlevel, making adjustments as necessaryto adjustable legs.
STEP 4Locate 4 rung frames and fitdiagonals onto lowest rungs, attach stabilisers to each corner.
STEP 5Locate trap door platform on 4thrung 2.20 mtr level above ladder.
STEP 6Climb ladder and using the trap doorplatform for protection sit with bothfeet on the ladder fit 4 guardrailbraces on 5th and 6th rungs abovetrap door to both sides of platformand secure diagonal brace. Accessthe platform and secure guardrailsand diagonal brace at opposite endof the tower.
STEP 7Fit next lift of 4 rung frames andattach diagonal braces.
STEP 8If working height of tower is achievedon this frame, locate standardplatform on 8th rung and slide acrossto opposite side of tower, locatetrapdoor platform above the ladder,this is the 4.20 mtr level.
