Dear parents, carers and community members,
On Friday we had a visit from the Life Education van. Our
special guest, Healthy Harold the giraffe, did not disappoint
as usual. He was a hit! The students were able to see his
golden car and his golden toilet. The theme of the lessons
were ‘being respectful and caring with friendships’ and
‘healthy lifestyles’.
NAPLAN tests will be held for the next two weeks. Years 3,
5, 7 and 9 will sit for literacy and numeracy tests in periods
1 & 2 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. All
students will go to the library for their tests.
There are new baby chickens which have hatched out of
the incubator. Our students are responsible for feeding and
caring for them during the day. The vegetable garden beds
are all coming along nicely. By the end of the winter they
should all have a variety of vegetables growing in them.
It’s getting colder each day, we have winter jackets
available at school. School uniform is the pride of place
here at school. Our students look good in black long pants,
green school tops and our school jackets for their winter
uniform. On Monday we give roo dollars out to students
who are in full school uniform.
Have a great week!

Assistant Principal
Last Friday, Healthy Harold
travelled to Ivanhoe to chat to
our students about the
importance of staying HEALTHY!
Jack, in Year 3, said that Healthy
Harold taught him all about
eating the right amount of fruit
and vegetables and exercising
regularly.
Thanks for visiting us, Healthy
Harold!
Wishing a big
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
to Cea-Anna who turns 8
tomorrow and also to Ricardo
who turns 2 today!!!
The students had a very special
visitor on Friday.
‘Rae-Rae’ the merino lamb travelled in
from Morningside Station and enjoyed a
great day playing with students and
drinking bottles!
On Monday last week the primary students competed in the Amazing
Race. We got into our teams and we had envelopes with a clue and a
sticker chart, we needed to collect stickers from each challenge. The
first clue was different for every team, and told us where to go for the
first challenge.
My name is Fox and flying I will go! Led us to the
playground, where we had to dress up and do a lap of
the equipment. It was emphasising with the high
schoolers watching us. But some of us danced at the
top.
Drawing Ricardo was the art challenge. It was a bit hard to
draw him correctly. Some teams forgot to work together
and did their own pictures instead.
Ms Mafi gave the instructions at
the flag poles. We had to raise the
flags on the right poles, then take
them down and fold them up.
Some teams got the flags upside
down. Cea-Anna got caught under
the flag as it was lowered.
At the farm Ms Alison and Mr McBeth helped us plant a
seedling into a pot. It was easy but dirty work.
At the basketball station Jayda was there to help us out. We
had to shoot 10 hoops, if we couldn't do that we had to do
10 push-ups and run on the spot for 1 minute. It was funny
when we missed the hoop. Jada got a mouth full of dirt
when she was doing push-ups.
At the library we got a little note with a book name from Mrs
Howard. We had to look it up on Oliver to find where the
book was in the library. Some of the books were easy to find
and some were harder.
The maths challenge was hard, you
had to use only 4 sticks to yard up
10 pigs. Working together made it
easier.
At the end the teachers told us an animal to make out
of our clue cards. It was very tricky and we needed
hints.
The winners were Ms Jess and Aisake, and Ella and
Kyeanna. They were happy with a prize of just a
sticker, but Miss Natalie told them to ask for more.
Eventually they got a real prize.
Congratulation to everyone who participated.
Thank you to local author Marie Kelly for
donating a copy of her book to the school
library.
I have read her book and it makes for
interesting reading.
In one chapter she talks about her teachers’
disappointment and displeasure in her, but
goes on to say how another teacher had a
different way of teaching, which cultivated
her learning ability and she developed into an
engaged and successful student!

The Ivanhoe Roosters travelled to Narrandera on Saturday to take the field in
the ProTen Community Cup 2021 Knockout. The team has only had 1
training run together and from the results of the first two games on
Saturday, it is obvious that the boys work together really well and will only
improve from here on.
Kyle Archibald was great for the team with his big voice from the back and
his hard running. Tomasi played a fantastic first game of league. We can’t
wait to see his improvement throughout the season. Jayden Pippin also
made his debut for Ivanhoe as no. 6 and will be a big help to Brenton Kitson
in the halves. The Carmichael brothers, Nick and Mark, shared the role of
dummy half and it was hard to split them up with the work they put in.
The forwards led by the year’s captain, Quinten Plum held their own
throughout the game. Mark Huntly, Conrad McGinty, Beau Dunn, Zac O’Neill
and Josh Robertson, all put in the hard yards and it was also great to see the
veteran, Robbie Clark (not meaty) back in the paddock.
All the boys played exceptionally well and it is shaping up to be a great
season ahead of us.
