Sabarmati Ashram: Set up in the year 1915, Sabarmati ashram was the central point from where the struggle for
India's Independence was started. Till the year 1930, the ashram at Sabarmati was the home of Mahatma Gandhi.
The museum exhibits the life of Mahatma Gandhi. It is open from 8.30 am to 6.00 pm everyday.
Kankaria Lake: A polygonal lake almost a mile in circumference, it was constructed in 1451 by Sultan Qutb-ud-Din.
In the centre of the lake is an island-garden with a summer palace known as Nagina Wadi. The lake is now a
popular recreational centre and is surrounded by parks, 'Bal Vatika', children's gardens, a boat club, natural history
museum and a zoo. Lighting and special effects on the walkway and sumptuous food of the restaurants in the
central garden make the lake a worthwhile place to visit or spend an evening.
Adalaj Vav : Located on Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Highway, 'Adalaj Ni Vav' was built in 1499 by Queen Rudabai. A
spectacular example of Indo-Islamic architecture and design, this stepwell was not just a cultural and utilitarian
space, but also a spiritual refuge. This place is a must for any visitor who enjoys exploring history and appreciates
great architecture.
Jama Masjid: One of the most splendid mosques of India, the Jama Masjid was constructed in the year 1423 A.D
by Sultan Ahmed Shah, the founder of the Ahmedabad. Made by using yellow sandstones, the architecture of this
mosque is a blend of Hindu and Muslim styling. This edifice was built using items rescued from the demolished
Hindu and Jain temples. Supported by 260 pillars, the Jama Masjid of Ahmedabad consists of 15 domes.
Sidi Saiyad Mosque: Built by Sidi Saiyed in 1573, this elegant mosque is famous all over the country for its fantastic
architecture and exquisite Jali work or stone tracery. A vivid example of Indo-Saracenic architecture, the stone has
been carefully carved in order to create the filigree effect. The intricate carvings are fine examples of India's rich
architectural heritage.
Calico Museum: The Calico Museum of Textiles at Ahmedabad is the premier textile museum of the country,
known for its distinguished and comprehensive collection of textiles and artifacts. Inaugurated by Shri Jawaharlal
Nehru, Calico Museum of Textile, only thirty-one years old, is today justly regarded as one among the foremost
textile museums of the world. Its outstanding collection of Indian fabrics exemplifies handicraft textiles spanning
five centuries and attracts large numbers of visitors from the general public, as well as increasing numbers of
Indian and international research scholars. Timings: 10.00 to 12.30 am; 2.30 to 4.30 pm
Akshardham Temple: Dedicate to Lord Swaminarayn & inspired by HDH Pramukh Swami Maharaj, Akshardham
Temple is a miracle worked in traditional stone architecture & ancient wisdom. A majestic temple set amidst a 23-
acre plot at Gandhinagar, Akshardham temple is a tribute to the artistry of man and his faith in God. A major
attraction of the temple is the Sat-Chit-Anand Water Show (first of its kind in India) a spectacular show on water
using effects of fire, sound talk, water & video showcasing the cultural heritage on a 60 feet wide water screen.
Temple Timings 9.30 am to 7.30 pm. (Monday closed)
Science City : Located off SG Highway, Science City is an initiative of the Government of Gujarat to trigger an
enquiry in to science with the aid of entertainment and experiment. The 3D IMAX Theatre, Musical Fountain,
Energy Park and Simulation Rides are the focal points of this complex. The Park is open from 12.00 noon to
8.00 pm.
