of the chemical manufacturer, importer, or other responsible party.
Product Identifier: chemical name, code number or batch number.

◦
Danger –
more severe hazards
◦
Warning –
less severe hazards
Progressive Safety Services LLC - All Rights Reserved. 42
Hazard Statements: describe the nature of the hazards of a chemical including the degree of hazard
For Example: “Causes damage to kidneys through prolonged exposure when absorbed through the skin”
Progressive Safety Services LLC - All Rights Reserved. 43
Precautionary Statements –
describe recommended measures that should be taken to minimize or prevent adverse effects resulting from exposure to hazardous chemicals or improper storage or handling

Must maintain labels on containers
◦
Legible
◦
Pertinent info must not be defaced or removed
◦
If an employee transfers hazardous chemicals from a labeled container to a portable container that is only intended for immediate use by the employee who performs the transfer, no labels are required.

◦
Employers may continue to use “in-house”
labeling systems such as NFPA diamonds or HMIS system for labels as they are consistent with the requirements of the HCS.
