There's A DietTo fit Your Need
The American public is nowwell aware that any effectiveweight control program must in-clude dieting.
Hundreds?perhaps thousands?of different diets are presentedto us. Most are billed as a "sure-fire" means at trimming off excesspounds.
The American Medical Asso-ciation's home health book. To-
day's ffealth Cuide. points out
that weight can be lost on virtuallyany dietary plan, good or bad, that
ensures a calorie intake less thanenergy used, ft is apparent, how-ever, that many diets are onlytemporarily effective and do notpromote the purposeof permanent weight loss.
Reducing diets, ideal weightcharts, calory-counting tables areavailable almost everywhere. It isour purpose here to discuss brieflysome principles of the good reduc-ing diet.
? The diet should be indivi-
dualized in harmony with income, national origins, religious princi-ples and personal circumstances.
? Trte diet should be practi-cal, consistent with work patternsand other everyday obligations andresponsibilities.

* The diet should be bal-anced, and in conformity with
good nutritional practice.* The diet should be a pat-
tern for life, not just for the pe-riod of weight reduction.
Generally, physicians do not
recommend the crash diet in rou-tine weight reduction. Instead, they are more likely to prescribea diet aimed at a gradual weightreduction over several months.
It usually isn't necessary to go
hungry "hile dieting. Your physi-cian can help you work out a dietthat will be satisfying and at thesame time permit you to loseweight. 7 68
