City of Wheat Ridge Receives Re-Accreditation for Parks and RecreationThe City of Wheat Ridge remains in the ranks of elite parkand recreation agencies across the country by earning re-accreditation through the Commission for Accreditation ofPark and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) and the NationalRecreation and Park Association (NRPA). Thisdistinguished accomplishment was awarded during the2021 NRPA Annual Conference.
CAPRA accreditation is the only national accreditation for park and recreationagencies and is a measure of an agency’s overall quality of operation, management,and service to the community. This mark of distinction indicates that an agency hasmet rigorous standards related to the management and administration of lands,facilities, resources, programs, safety and services. Read more
Hazardous Tree Grant ProgramThe City of Wheat Ridge Hazardous Tree Removal GrantProgram opens for applications on Monday, October 4, 2021at 7 a.m..
Applications will close on Monday, November 1, 2021, at 5p.m. Applications will be considered in the order that theyare received and qualifying applicants will be notified byphone to schedule an assessment. If selected, a CityForester will conduct an assessment of the tree within twoweeks. Following the assessment, qualifying applicantsmust immediately seek removal by a City approved arborist.Receipt for completed tree removal must be submitted to theCity of Wheat Ridge by the end of 2021.

Wadsworth Improvement ProjectBreaks GroundOn Tuesday, Oct. 12, the City takes the first symbolicstep with the Wadsworth Improvement Project with agroundbreaking at 7575 W. 44th Ave. at 10 a.m. Thepublic is invited. A Public Meeting is scheduled at CityHall on Tuesday, Oct. 26 from 6-8 p.m. City staff andproject partners including the contractor, will be onhand to answer questions in an open house format.
This project includes modernizing and improvingWadsworth from 35th Avenue to I-70 with efficientand safe intersection designs, safer entrances andexits for vehicles accessing businesses, and a continuous sidewalk on the west sideand a bike/pedestrian path on the east side of Wadsworth from 35th Avenue to theClear Creek Trail.
Concrete Works of Colorado was awarded the project and anticipates startingconstruction in mid-October. The first phase of work involves demolition and gradingactivity adjacent to southbound Wadsworth in order to pave temporary roadways.Once temporary roadways are paved, all traffic will shift to the west side of the roadin order to construct the new northbound lanes and improvements along the eastside of Wadsworth. Business access and two lanes in each direction will bemaintained throughout construction. Overnight and infrequent off-peak lane closuresare expected. There is also a plan to address any potential traffic concerns withinneighborhoods. Schedule and traffic impact information will be updated weekly andposted on the project web page https://bit.ly/WRWadsworthProject. National Drug Take BackWRPD is hosting National Drug Take Back onSat. Oct. 23 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the frontentrance of SCL Lutheran Medical Center.Clean out the medicine cabinets and get rid ofunused, un-needed, and expired pills andpatches that otherwise could fall into thehands of a child or otherwise be misused.Items that cannot be accepted include liquids,needles or sharps.
Sustainable WR Partners withFresh Food Connect This FallSustainable Wheat Ridge is partnering withFresh Food Connect again this year toconnect local gardeners with those in needof food in the Wheat Ridge community.
Fresh Food Connect’s mobile appcoordinates the donations of home grownproduce to local non-profit organizationslike Family Tree. Gardeners sign up via Fresh Food Connect’s mobile app andindicate when they have extra produce. Family Tree will appear automatically as theWheat Ridge option when gardeners type in 80033. Gardeners then list what theyare donating and upload a photo and then deliver their produce to Family Treeduring the times listed. Family Tree will distribute to people living in their domesticviolence shelter and/or to people experiencing homelessness who are receivingsupport services.
