CHAIRPERSON’S ADDRESS
As human beings, we proudly claim to be the most sophisticated on Earth. Yet, when we are faced with problems and disasters affecting Mother Nature, we seem less conscientious and tend to leave questions aside until it gets too late.
Since we were first told that some fossil fuels would run out in less than a century, we did little to change our consumption habits. Even when we witnessed unfortunate nuclear power plant explosions that took away lives of many, we did little to ensure high levels of stability and preparation in times of emergencies. We insanely expected things to improve by themselves over time.
Nonetheless, we all know that effort is needed to bring about changes, or else the situation will only worsen over time, until it gets beyond control and becomes irreversible. We, as future pillars of the
society, are bestowed with the mission of contributing to both future development and environmental conservation; the mission of preserving the Earth the way she used to be, and return to our future generation the very Earth we borrowed from them.
Global Youth Ministers 2012 has provided a fun and exciting platform for young leaders to exchange views on the international issue of nuclear energy. I sincerely hope that GYM 2012 has been an enjoyable experience for everyone, and that memories as well as lessons learnt will linger on, beyond this neat collection of the happy moments.

OpeningCeremony& Workshop
The opening ceremony was launched by the inspiring speeches of our honorable guests, who encouraged participants to broaden their horizon and conserve our environment, followed by sharing by past participants of GYM 2011. The kick-off ceremony marked the climax of the Opening, where pictures showing polluted scenes were removed, revealing a pair of hands holding the Earth, representing our hope for the future of the Earth.
After the end of the Opening Ceremony, Dr. William Yu delivered a lecture on Hong Kong Energy Index and Demand Side Management. Through this workshop and the subsequent discussion session, participants deepened their knowledge on Hong Kong’s current energy consumption status and related problems.

Cultural Night at the Camp was yet another highlight. Participants were dressed up for Country Performances and social dance, followed by a great performance by the humorous guest magician.
WORKSHOPs & Presentation SessioN
Workshops by Distinguished Guest Speakers In preparation of the Summit, participants were given the chance to attend talks by distinguished guests, Dr. Kenneth Chan and Dr. A. L. Roy Vellaisamy. Dr. Chan focused on how energy crisis could be related to international relations and cross-country conflicts. Dr. Vellaisamy, on the other hand gave our participants basic physics knowledge related to energy usage, in particular nuclear energy.
Presentation Session by GYM DiplomatsParticipants were also asked to conduct research and work on position paper of their representative countries. Delegates from each country were given time to present their findings such as basic information of a country, her interesting facts and customs, as well as energy resources and its usage within the territory.
Most of the teams actually did a great job that day. The presentation session gave delegates a great opportunity to learn more about different countries, where they gained preliminary understanding of other countries and controversial energy issues before the Summit.

Summit & Closing CeremonyAfter intensive and comprehensive training in previous weeks, participants were equipped with the skills and basic knowledge about international relations, which facilitated their discussion in the 2-day Summit. Participants acted as delegates of the 16 representative countries. Co-operating with other countries while protecting the rights of their countries proved to be a real challenge for them.
At first, the balancing exercise was difficult for the young delegates, but soon they adapted to the rules and procedures and maximized opportunities to speak. After two days of in-depth discussion, delegates were able to come up with a final resolution and
concluded the summit.
GYM 2012 Summit ended in a round of applause, and delegates were left with broadened horizon and invaluable friendships.

Kate Ng (France) You probably have heard SO MANY MUN programmes among HK academics. You might think we are just pretending to be “important decision-makers of the world” and are doing nothing on the issue afterwards.
I used to think so. Yet, attending the first session of this programme and meeting members of the Exco made me know GYM 2012 would be more than meeting the eyes.
Being arranged to my favorite country led to my commitment to better equip my team. Moreover, I was impressed by the passion and thoughts of other participants. Although sometimes their suggestions were not as practical and the debate was fierce, it was nice to see everyone trying to “make the world a greener place”.
After GYM 2012, my attention to the theme, abandonment of nuclear power, had been highly raised and I would like to sincerely thank GYM 2012 here, for the inspiration it brought me, turning me into an active anti-nuclear advocator of a local NGO. I shall take the opportunity to strongly recommend GYM to you, as if you are trying to be a responsible global citizen as a student.
Joshua Wang (North Korea)The GYM experience was one unsurpassed in my 'book of experiences'. It was a most interesting month of weekends even though by the end of it, I needed a lot of sleep. Through the experience I clearly learned to recognise my personal value and ability. I got the experience to learn from the most varying range of capabilities in different areas, in a huge range of positions. Some deserved, others undeserved. Some went to the extent to surprising me with the most unexpected capabilit ies despite their background.
I appreciate the leaders who worked with the sole aim of making GYM and fun learning experience and justly put their personal wants and desires aside. The activity was led most of the participants to a new realisation of the global stage. Attempts of the participants were to be much applauded.
Definitely a recommendable activity for those who want new experiences.

I am so proud to becom

Thank you all Excos and fellow participa

The whole four weeks gave me deeper insight into
some world issues and led me to explore new
perspectives. This year’s topi
c was ' Is nuclear energy
is a way out?'. The topic and talks given by professors
and US consul were interesting and useful to us
in
doing research. The debate, detective games and
group discussion were fascinating and fun!
When it came to the GYM Summit, we had to actively
respond to and illustrate proper and specific
criticisms on the issues. Previous knowledge gathered
from workshops and visits helped me understand the
existence of cultural, religious, national relations
and regulations. Background information on history
of allies between countries presented by fellow
members in their Cultural Night performance also
widened my knowledge on politics. Joining GYM is
perhaps the greatest reward ever! :)

GYM has finally come to an
end.
As a delegate of Pakistan,
I would like to suggest
a motion to suspend
GYM2012 forever. :)
I was so lucky to have
joined GYM, where I
met other diplomats and
got a chance to learn more
about my awesome representative country, PAKISTAN.
Among all the activities, the one which I like most was the Camp and
the memorable Cultural Night. This was the first time for me to dance
with new friends and we all were so shy at the beginning. The 2-day
Summit was also an exciting task. We all worked hard and made our way
through! Thanks should be extended to fellow delegates for supporting
our Resolution!
FRIENDSHIP, that is my most valuable gain from GYM. Though we come
from various schools, I have faith that our friendship can be extended
beyond GYM. Four weeks’ time, intensive but worthwhile. Thank you for
giving me such a golden opportunity and my team mates’ tolerance
throughout. Special thanks also goes to the Excos for organizing such a
meaningful event! I love and miss you all! :D

“Ability is what you're capa
ble of doing. Motivation
determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you
do it.”
In one we see plentiful pote
ntials, yet one's ability
to
discover and utilize them has proved to be ess
ential to the
resulting person we are to b
ecome.
I was known to be an introvert, and
often hid what i had
within me. Yet, GYM provided me with a new environment
to start off again
and sculpture an ameliorated
self-image.
In GYM, I met people with distinctive
traits, where some
tried to pull me down and others su
pported me. The words
from fellow allies and 'enemies' indirectly ga
ve me
motivation and thus stim
ulated a better attitude in me.
Throughout GYM, I made many friends with different
specialities and each of
them was unique to me. GYM has
not only given me irreplac
able memories, but also
strengthened my charact
er. Of course, my courtesy of
everyone.

GYM 2012 Afterthoughts
Cathy So (China)Four weeks seems to be a long time, but for me, a GYM
2012 participant, this unforgettable journey was all but too
short.
In this programme, I think the most unforgettable event
was the Cultural Night. Spark, Emily, Conroy and I
represented China, and we prepared a lot for the drama
and songs, as well as information about nuclear development in the whole world.During these four weeks, I have not only gained knowledge on nuclear power, but also things which could
not be obtained inside classrooms: diplomatic skills,
interesting culture of different countries, and the most
important one: friendship with my group mates. This program taught me what team sprit is, and made me
feel like being a member in a new, warm family! ^^ It
feels really amazing to make new friends in such a
meaningful programme!
