New Delhi: Tata Motors reported a 38.8 per centrise in global sales, including that of Jaguar Land Roverat 1,02,297 units in April.

The company had sold a total of 73,691 units inthe same month last year.

Global wholesale of all Tata Motors’ commercialvehicles and Tata Daewoo range in April 2018, morethan doubled to 39,678 units from 128,844 units inthe same month last year, the company said in a BSEfiling.The automaker’s global sales of all passengervehicles, were at 62619 units, higher by 14 per centfrom 54,847 units in April 2017.Global sales of JaguarLand Rover were 45,284 units, Jaguar wholesales forthe month were 14,874 vehicles, while Land Rover,whole sales too at 30,410 vehicles, the company said.

TCG targets OdishaCalcutta: Indian Oil Corporation and Purnendu

Chattejree led MCPI Private Limited have teamed upto place a Rs 1000 crore proposal with the Odishagovernment for a polyester staple fibre plant in theeastern state. MCPI is part of The Chatterjee Group.

The plant will come up on a 200-acre industrialpark at Dhamnagar in Bhadrak district around 80 ki-lometers from the Dhamra port. The plant will pro-duce polyester staple fibre, draw textured yarn andfully drawn yarn, which has application in differenttextile segments.

At Dhamnagar, IOC has given a proposal alongwith MCPI that they will invest about Rs 1000 crore tomake a PSF. The plant would in turn tigger demandfor various other applications, such as garments, tech-nical textile and upholstery, said Sanjeev Chopra, Prin-cipal Secretary in the industries department Odishagovernment.

Once they come up, their products will feed thedownstream industries, Chopra said after meetingcity-based industrialists as part of the around showto attract investments ahead of the Make in Odishainvestment conclave in November. He said thegreenfield unit is expected to become operational inthe next two and half years.

MCPL was an affiliate of Japan’s Mitsubishi Chemi-cal Corporation before the majority ownership of thecompany was transferred to The Chatterjee Group. thegroup, which operates its flagship firm HaldiaPetrochem in Hengal, was planning to diversify andexpand its business.

Bankers cheer as Tata pays forBhushan Steel

Mumbai: The first major resolution of an insol-vency case filed with the National Company Law Tri-bunal has brought cheer to bankers, with Tata Steelconfirming that it had completed the acquisition of72.7% stake in Bhushan Steel and that it was in theprocess of paying the lenders Rs 35,200 crore.

Settlement of the amounts equivalent to Rs35,200 crore towards financial creditors of BSL, is be-ing undertaken as per the terms of the resolutionplan, Tata Steel said in an exchange filing, Rs 1200crore will be paid to the operational creditors of BSLover a period of 12 months as per the admitted claimsand as per the terms of the approved Resolution Plan.

Banks have already received 65-70 per cent of theamount bankers said on condition of anonymity.

With most banks having already made provisionsfor fifty per cent of the total Rs 56,000 crore BSL owedthem, proceeds from the sale are seen boosting prof-itability. BSL had topped a list of 12 debtors that theReserve Bank of India had asked banks to initiatedinsolvency proceedings against.

Toyota adds Yaris to lineupMumbai: Toyota Kirloskar Motor introduced its

new mid-segment sedan Yaris in India with an intro-ductory starting price of Rs. 8.75 lakh ex-showroomall India. The top most model is priced at Rs. 14.07 lakhex-showroom.

The company is targeting sales of 4,000 Yaris unitsby the end of May. The model will compete withHonda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Ciaz. Whilebookings are open at Toyota’s authorized dealershipacross the country, deliveries had started itself. Com-pany officials said more than 1,000 cars were sched-uled for delivery on the first day.

The car was first unveiled at the India Auto Expoearlier this year. It comes in four grades and versionsinclude a 7-speed CVT (Continuous Variable Transmis-sion) or 6-speed MT (Manual Transmission) engine,the company said. Yaris offers 11 first-in-segment fea-tures such as the power driver’s seat, 7-SRS airbags,roof-mounted air vents, tyre pressure monitoring sys-tem, front parking sensors, CVT across all grades, itadded.

Union Bank to raise up to Rs744 croreNew Delhi: Public sector Union Bank of India said

it has got approval from its board to raise up toRs7,400 crore in the current financial year by way ofcore equity capital or through bonds.

The bank has capped the money to be raised fromadditional tier I (ATI) bonds or tier 2 bonds to Rs3,700crore within the overall capital raising limit of Rs7,400crore. For money that can be raised via equity capital,the bank said it has been permitted to mop up anamount not exceeding Rs6,850 crore within overalllimit of Rs7,400 crore.

RCom in talks to settle Ericsson duesNew Delhi: Anil Ambani-run Reliance Commu-

nications said it is in advanced stages of discussionswith Ericsson for settling issues related to unpaid duesoutside of the insolvency and bankruptcy proceed-ings.

We confirm that RCom and Ericsson are at an ad-vanced stage of discussions to expeditiously resolvecommercial issues. This will enable Reliance Commu-nications to exit the National Company Law Tribunal(NCLT) process, an RCom said.The spokespersonadded that the company is confident to expeditiouslyproceed with its monetization plan with Reliance Jioand overall resolution plan with the lenders, keepingin mind the interests of all stakeholders.

Precision Camshafts buys Emoss forRs 58 crore

Mumbai: Precision Camshafts Ltd. (PCL) has ac-quired 51% stake in Emoss Mobile Systems B.V. of theNetherlands for Rs. 58 crore. The auto parts maker hasalso made provision to acquire the balance 49% fromthe Dutch firm’s promoters in due course.

The acquisition of Emoss, which offers electricpowertrain solutions, marks PCL’s entry into e-mobility.We are looking at capturing a significantshare of the commercial electric vehicle market glo-bally, Yatin Shah, CMD, PCL, said in an interview. Thisacquisition will enable PCL to become a global leaderin the automotive industry with a wide variety ofsolutions.Emoss has the capability to replace inter-nal combustion engines (ICE) of 3.5 to 50 tonnes ca-pacity in current buses and trucks with electricpowertrains. It has a proven track record and is alreadyreplacing engines in city trucks in New Zealand.Theacquisition will help PCL gain access to mature elec-trical mobility markets such as Europe, North Americaand Australis, the firm said.

New Delhi: India hasdragged the US to theWorld Trade Organization’sdispute settlement mecha-nism over the imposition ofimport duties on steel andaluminium, an official said.India has stated that thedecision will impact exportsof these products to the USand it is not in compliancewith global trade norms.

India has filed a disputeunder the aegis of the WTOon the issue of imposingimport duties by the US oncertain steel and aluminiumproducts, the official said.The country has soughtconsultations with the USunder the WTO’s disputesettlement mechanism.

Seeking consultation isthe first step of disputesettlement process. If thetwo nations are not able toreach a mutually agreed so-

lution through consulta-tion, India may request fora WTO dispute settlementpanel to review the matter.On March 9, US PresidentDonald

Banks may recoverover Rs1 lakh crore

New Delhi: Enthusedby the successful conclu-sion of the Bhushan Steelcase, the Finance Ministryexpects banks to write backmore than Rs. 1 lakh croreafter the resolution of all 12NPA cases referred to insol-vency proceedings by theRBI it its first list.

Tata Group acquiredcontrolling stake of 72.65%in the debt-ridden BhushanSteel Ltd. for about Rs.36,000 crore which will helpin cleansing the bankingsystem as well as boostlenders’ profitability.

The remaining 11 NPAcases, which are in the pipe-line, will easily bring to thetable more than Rs. 1 lakhcrore and the amount com-ing from resolution underthe Insolvency and Bank-ruptcy Code (IBC) will di-rectly add to the bottomlineand help in reduction ofNPAs of the public sectorbanks, a senior Finance Min-istry official said.

Last year, in June, RBI’sinternal advisory commit-

tee (IAC) identified 12 ac-counts, each having morethan Rs. 5,000 crore of out-standing loans and ac-counting for 25% of totalNPAs of banks.

Following the RBI’s advi-sory banks referredBhushan Steel Ltd, BhushanPower and Steel Ltd., EssarSteel Ltd., Jaypee InfratechLtd., Lanco Infratech Ltd.,Monnet Ispat & Energy Ltd.,Jyoti Structures Ltd.,Electrosteel Steels Ltd.,Amtek Auto Ltd., Era InfraEngineering Ltd., Alok In-dustries Ltd., and ABG Ship-yard Ltd to the NCLT.

These accounts to-gether have a total out-standing loan of Rs 1./75lakh crore. The KolkataBench of the National Com-pany Law Tribunal had al-ready approved VedantaResources resolution planfor acquisition ofElectrosteel Steel lastmonth. Besides, the NCLTlast month also asked thelenders of Bhushan Powerand Steel to consider the

bid submitted by the UKbased Liberty House for thedebt ridden company.

Bhushan Power andSteel owes almost Rs 48,000crore to banks and was re-ferred to the NCLT byPunjab National Bank inJune last year.

Bamnipat Steel Ltd awholly owned subsidized ofTata Steel had acquired72.65 per cent stake inBhushan Steel by payingabout Rs 36,400 crore ofwhich Rs 35,200 crore willbe paid to the financialcreditors.The buy-out is ex-pected to bring relief in theform of capital boost to PNBthe was one of the leadinglenders to the debt riddencompany, the bank said.

BoI to get Rs 1993cr from Tata Steel-Bhushan Steel deal

Kolkata: The state-owned Bank of India (BoI)would be able to realizearound Rs 1993 crore fromthe first successful NCLTresolution concerning TataSteel and Bhushan Steel, anofficial said.

The amount would notinclude haircuts, BoI manag-ing director and chief ex-ecutive officer D Mohapatrasaid.

The realization of theamount would lead to NPAreduction and increaseprofitability of the bank, hesaid.

The first successful NCLTresolution involving TataSteel and Bhushan Steel willhelp in realize Rs 1993 crore.If there are haircuts, theamount will be written backfrom provisioning,Mohapatra told at newsconference.

In the first list of 12 ac-counts sent to NCLT forresolution under Insolvencyand Bankruptcy Code (IBC),BoI's exposure was Rs 8300crore. In the second list of 27accounts, the exposure wasRs 3000 crore, he said.

Once all the resolutionsare successfully completedwho is expected in FY 2019,the bank will see a rise inprofitability, he added.

GST at 18% for foodservice to canteensChennai: The Gujarat

Authority for Advance Rul-ing has said that supply offood services to canteens atindustries and offices is inthe nature of ‘outdoor cater-ing’ and the buyer is liableto pay goods and servicestax (GST) of 18%.

Under the GST regime,outdoor catering attracts18% tax, while for canteenservices it is 5%. However,there was confusion as tohow food supplied to can-teens through third-partycatering should be treatedand taxed.

According to experts,the issue was whether suchsupplies be treated as can-teen services and taxed at5%, or treated as outdoorcatering and taxed at 18%under GST.

While it had been clari-fied that catering services to

railways and educational in-stitutions would be taxed at5%, catering services to of-fice and industry canteenshad remained a grey area.Service providers werecharging different ratesleading to disputes withcustomers. Industry playershad also sought clarifica-tion from the Finance Min-istry and the GST Councilon the issue, according toreports.

Rashmi Hospitality Ser-vices, an industrial canteencontractor, had been charg-ing clients with in-housecanteens at their factories,a GST of 18%. However, oneof its customers had askedto be charged GST at 12%.Rashmi had moved the au-thority seeking clarificationon the issue.

The authority ruled thatRashmi was providing ser-vice from premises otherthan its own to the clientand that it should betreated as ‘outdoor cateringservice’ and taxed at 18%.

It also noted the expres-sion of outdoor cateringwas not defined under theCentral Goods and Services

Tax Act as also that of theGujarat Goods and ServicesTax Act. However, the au-thority pointed out that in ajudgement, the AllahabadHigh Court had observedthat taxable catering servicecannot be confused withwho has actually consumedthe food, edibles and bever-ages supplied by thecaterer.The High Court hasalso held that the taxabilityor the charge of tax doesnot depend on whether andto what extent the personengaging the service con-sumes the edibles andedibles supplied, wholly orin part, it added.

The said Ruling wouldopen up a Pandora’s box forindustries as well as em-ployees, with increased costof meals for employees orfor businesses; where thecost of meals is borne bybusinesses. The input taxcredit is also not available,Abhishek Jain, partner, EY,said.He also pointed outthat while the ruling by theauthority was not bindingon other States to follow, itdefinitely set a precedenton the vexing issue.

UltraTech to acquire Century’scement unit in share swap deal

Mumbai: Century Tex-tiles and Industries Ltd., aB.K. Birla Group company,has decided to demerge itscement business toUltraTech Cement Ltd. of theAditya Birla Group in a stock(share) swap deal.

Century’s cement busi-ness is being acquired at anenterprise value of Rs8,621crore, including debt ofRs3,000 crore which will betaken over by UltraTech.
