GREEN REVOLUTION

INTRODUCTION Green revolution promoted the use of high yielding

variety seeds, chemical fertilizers, pesticides and promoted irrigation facilities.

Green revolution has given boost to the production of wheat in the first stage and production of rice in the second stage.

The aim of green revolution is to promote both agriculture production and productivity.

The green revolution is also named as seed-water- fertilizer-pesticide-technology.

Green revolution was introduced in the form of a package programme.

MEANING OF GREEN REVOLUTION Green revolution implies large increase in

agriculture production which is the result of new agricultural strategy it mean

(1) marked improvement in agricultural production

(2) sustenance of higher level of agricultural production over a fairly long-period of time.

In short, green revolution means significant increase in agricultural production in the sixties consequent upon the adoption of new agricultural strategy and use of HYV (high yielding variety) seeds and chemical fertilizers.

Limited crops

Limited area

Benefit to rich farmers only

Unemployment

Less growth rate of agricultural production

Black marketing of farm inputs

No significant improvement in irrigation facilities

ARGUMENTS IN FAVOUR OF GREEN REVOLUTION

Not only the rich farmers are benefitted
