Reduce use of “to be” verb:

He is indecisive.

Her dream is to sing on Broadway

Steve Jones is an aspiring fashion designer. He is an art major and is beginning his last year at CCNY. He is interested in being the next Ralph Lauren.

Her positive attitude, happiness and passion are what are going to keep her on this path.

Buying a home of her own is also in her future, and Los Angeles is where she would like to live.

Wordy, “to be” verb

Wordy, to be verb, repetition

Once she identified that there was a problem in her community concerning a lack of clean water, she knew it was time to do something about the problem.

Jerry Carlson runs the MCA department.

Incorrect: Jerry teaches film studies. Correct: Carlson teaches film studies.

Use last name after first mention.

Use CAPS correctly.

Incorrect: He studies Journalism. Correct: He studies journalism.

Incorrect: She became Executive Director of The Powell Center. Correct: She became executive director of the Powell Center.

(don’t cap majors, minors, most titles)

Punctuate quotations correctly (come on, ya’ll!)

Not: “Studying journalism at CCNY has proven wildly successful.”

Also Not: “Studying journalism at CCNY has proven wildly successful” She says

Correct: “Studying journalism at CCNY has proven wildly successful,” she says.

Check all names!

Misspelled this round: Giorgia, Julissa, Jimene and Mount Vermont
