Directors Annual Narrative
The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) represents a unique approach to higher education in Northwest Minnesota by providing exemplary undergraduate programs focusing on applied theory and demand-driven specialized skills. This is accomplished through collaborative relationships with other colleges, businesses, and industries while emphasizing technology experiences for careers in the information age workplace and seamless career connections that support life-long learning.
Career Services provides help to students and alumni with their job and internship searches to secure jobs which are related to their training at UMC.
Career Services does not claim direct responsibility for each placement or non-placement reported in this annual report. In some cases we had no involvement in the placement and in others we were directly and heavily involved. We attempt to teach career search techniques by means of our career services office, orientation meetings, special topic workshops and seminars. UMCs Career Service Center is but one of the many resources and strategies to be used in finding suitable employment. A well-designed plan for achieving career objectives will certainly include the resources of Career Services as well as excellent academic advising and will also take advantage of many other resources, technologies and strategies. Our Career Services web site (www.umcrookston.edu/ccs) is updated annually and includes employment and internship information by majors.
We appreciate the assistance provided by the class of 2004-2005 in keeping us informed as to their status and by responding to our mail, online survey and telephone calls. Department heads, faculty, parents, and staff also provided information on graduates, and for that assistance we extend our thanks.
We are continually seeking to improve this report and provide high quality services to students and alumni. We welcome your comments to help us achieve that goal.

Purpose, Background, and Demographics
Purpose This is the annual Graduate Follow-up Placement report of the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) 2004-2005 graduates. Included is data from a comprehensive study, which was conducted beginning July 1, 2004 and ending April 25, 2008. UMC graduates respond about their employment status a year after their graduation date. UMC graduates gave their perspectives on their employment, experience, and satisfaction with their UMC education.
Background and Demographic Information This summary reports on the findings of the UMC Graduate Follow-up Survey administered to 2004-2005 graduates of UMC. The survey includes 217 graduates from Summer Session, Fall Semester, and Spring Semester. The survey was designed to provide important information on employment that will help us guide students to employment opportunities and assist us in program evaluation for the future.
Students were requested to complete the survey via US mail, e-mail, or by online questionnaires located on the Career and Counseling website. To respond to the questionnaire, the recipient filled in the requested information and returned the completed survey to the Career and Counseling Department in a self-addressed stamped envelope provided with the survey. This survey is located on the Career and Counseling website so graduates can complete the graduate survey online. Career Services staff collected and read the responses, extracted the data, processed it, and presented the numeric results in the publication.
All UMC graduates were mailed a Career Services cover letter and questionnaire approximately 3 months after their graduation date. A total of 217 graduates were initially requested to complete the survey. Two follow-up reminders were sent at two-month intervals to those who had not returned the questionnaire. Phone calls were then made by the Career and Counseling Department Staff and our student undergraduate researcher to those graduates who had not responded to the survey. Usable responses were received from 135 (62%) of the surveyed students. The survey consisted of seven demographic questions, seven employment questions, three furthering education questions, who responded to survey questionnaire and one section asking graduates about overall satisfaction with UMC education.

Executive Summary
Introduction The following is a summary of the University of Minnesota, Crookston students who graduated during the 2004-2005 academic year. One hundred and thirty five (135) surveys out of two hundred and seventeen (217) mailed out were completed and returned (62% of graduate surveys completed). Eighty-two graduates (38%) did not respond. The survey consisted of seventeen (17) questions in total and some respondents chose to skip some of the questions while some did not complete the entire survey.
Executive Summary UMC Career Services surveyed the Summer 2004, Fall 2004, and Spring 2005 graduating class.
Eighty-three percent (83%) of those that responded indicated that they were employed. Of those that were employed, 97% were employed full-time and within their major. Three percent (3%) reported they were employed in an unrelated field.
Eight percent (8%) of respondents indicated that they were currently continuing their education.
Ninety-three percent (93%) of survey respondents indicated they were very satisfied or satisfied with their education at UMC.
