INTRODUCTION

Google Loon is a network of balloons

traveling on the edge of space.

Designed to connect people in rural and

remote areas, help fill coverage gaps, and

bring people back online after disasters

INTERNET PENETRATION IN THE WORLD

4

5

CURRENT SYSTEM

The population of the world have enjoyed the benefits of resources

provided by internet. The internet is the backbone of the knowledge

of the economy.

CHALLENGES

Politics.

Balloon control.

Balloon life.

Signal strength.

Wi-Fi connectivity.

7

THE TECHNOLOGY

Project Loon balloons float in the stratosphere as twice as

high as airplanes and the weather.

They are carried around the Earth by winds and they can

be steered by rising or descending to an altitude with winds

moving in the desired direction.

8

9

People connect to the balloon network using a special

internet antenna attached to their building.

The signal bounces from balloons to balloons then to

the global internet back on earth.

Winds in the stratosphere are generally steady

and slow-moving at between 5 and 20 mph and

each layer of wind varies in direction.

Project Loon users software algorithms to

determine where its balloons need to go, then

moves each one into a layer of a wind blowing in

the right direction .

By moving the wind ,the balloons can be

arranged to form one large communications

network.10

HOW LOON IS DESIGNED

ENVELOPE

Envelope are made from sheets of polyethylene plastic and

stand fifteen meters wide by twelve meters tall.

A parachute attached to the top of the envelope allows for a

controlled descent.

And landing whenever a balloon is ready to be taken out of

service.

13

SOLAR PANELS

Each units electronics are powered by an array of solar

panels that sits between the envelope and hardware.

In full sun panel produce 100watts of power –enough to

keep the unit running while also charging a battery for use

at night.

Project loon is able to power itself using only renewable

energy sources.

EQUIPMENT

A small box containing the balloons electronic

equipment.

This box contain current boards that the system.

Radio antennas to communicate with other balloons and

with the internet antennas on the ground.

And batteries to store solar power so the balloons can

operate during night.

17

This is the first prototype of the of LOON EQUIPMENT.

The parachute is stuffed into the hole in the centre (we referred

to the design as a "Kleenex box").18

HOW LOON CONNECT

Each balloon can provide connectivity to a ground area

about 40km in diameter at speed comparable to 3G.

Three radio transceivers .

Balloon to balloon communications

Balloon to ground communication

Third for backup

The balloons use antennas equipped with specialized radio

frequency technology.

Maintenance.

Balloon can work for few weeks only.

CONCLUSION

Wi-Fi encircling entire geographical barrier is always a

boost to the Internet and Project Loon by Google is the

great initiative towards that .With this, almost all people

may get the ability to know the world of internet and

utilize these facility to overcome the barriers

26

FUTURE WORKS

Team Google designing its own IEEE802.11 standards to

develop high speed Wireless internet access as compared

to fiber cable based broadband services and to provide

Wi-Fi connectivity to mobile devices.
