Geothermal Energy Geothermal energy is the thermal energy that is generated and stored inside earth.

Heat comes from the earth’s mantle and it’s tapped into in order to heat buildings and generate electricity.

Heat can come up to the earth’s surface in hot springs and geysers.

History of Geothermal Energy There is archaeological evidence that humans first

used geothermal resources in North America since the settlement of Paleo-Indians 10,000 years ago.

People have used geothermal heat for centuries and the ability for earth to produce heat has always been around.

The first geothermal energy facility was built in Italy in 1904.

Where it’s found Geothermal reservoirs are deep underground and are usually found along plate boundaries where volcanoes and earthquakes are concentrated.

In the U.S, most geothermal power plants are located in the western states and Hawaii.

California is the largest known dry steam field in the the world.
