George Washington
George Washington was born on February 22, 1732 in Virginia.
George was very honest even as a child. There is a story about a
cherry tree to show his honesty.
A cherry tree had been chopped down and when George’s father asked him who had done it, he
said,“ I cannot tell a lie. I did it.”
He fought in the American Revolutionary War against
Britain.
Martha Washington was his wife and they lived on a plantation at
Mount Vernon, Virginia.
He was elected the first president of the United States.
He is known as the father of the nation because he helped found the United States government.
His face appears on the one dollar bill and on the quarter.
His face also appears on Mount Rushmore, in South Dakota.
There is a monument in Washington, D.C. dedicated to
him.
George Washington died when he was 67 years old. He is buried
at Mount Vernon.
