HELPFUL HINTS

As we move forward:

• Areas on which to focus

• Practices to enforce at home and at school……

VERBS …. VERBS …. VERBS

• Absolutely critical that the students know what a verb is …. That they read every prompt/question, etc and ‘find’ the verb … and then react as the verb directs …..

PRIMARY DOCUMENTS

• Students need to know the difference between primary and secondary documents

• ODE – (internal search box)Ohio Social Studies Signal Newsletter

Go here to link to Library of Congress = Greatresource for all grade levels

• 20% of the testing at secondary level will be on Founding Documents – we need this introduced at the elementary level

MULTIPLE CHOICE-MULTIPLE ANSWERS

• Transition students now ….

• Four choices – A, B, C and D ….. Probably 1 correct answer

• MORE than four choices – guide students to read carefully – could require 2 correct, 3 correct or all that apply

CAREFULLY READ THE QUESTIONS!

Student Technology Skills

Keyboarding Cutting and Pasting Highlighting Using on-screen calculator Dragging and Dropping items Manipulating a graph Running a simulation to generate data Changing font size and background color Clicking on multiple correct answers Utilizing spreadsheets, documents Use a secure browser

Classroom Routines to Support Technology Skills Highlight text

Number paragraphs

Underline text and cross out

Read two selections – compare/contrast

Watch short video clip as part of instruction

Offer ‘regular’ opportunity to: Select all that are appropriate

Pick two that you could use to solve the problem
