GENERAL INFORMATIONS update oct 2016

The manufacturer doesn’t engage any responsability if the device is used in other ways than those exposed in thisdocument. ATK descender as other braking devices needs appropriate training in safe situations or with experienced

people to avoid dangerous or injuring issues. 1

- Unlosable device (with an appropriate carabiner)

- Intuitive brakes for beginners

- Simple Hard Stop, on the same basis with single or double ropes

- avoid bad twists on the rope when used properly

- adjustable braking needs on the go according to manyparameters

- use of double windows : ATK system avoid rope damage but also separate double ropes without twists 2

3

One of the most used, on vertical drops, rope isadjusted just above the water

For left-handed

In this document, onlyright-handed uses

are shown !

Just invert the devicefor left-handed uses

Other brakingson single rope

Chose braking according to your weight, the verticalityof the drop, the rope diameter and its fluency.

HARD Stop

One of the big advantage of the device :

use the same way to stop with single or double ropes

étape 1 étape 2 Hard Stop

6

Suspended anchors or high vertical drops - first braking

« Rapid » + one turn (fig 1), providelimited twists on the rope

7

Suspended anchors or high vertical drops - second braking

Rapid + upper horn + friction on carabiner (fig 1), the rope will have nearly no twists

SHORT HARD Stop

For emergency, like a node on the rope arriving in your hand at the last moment.

You will only need 40cm of rope as shown.

Horns

The Upper horn can be used several times (fig 1)

The Lower horn admits double rope (fig 2)

PLAQUETTE-like use

Plaquette-like use + braking carabiner or horns : the rope keep the direct line without twists down the rope.

Chose braking options (fig 1) or (with horns) according to your weight, rope diameter and height of the drop.

15

Simple ATK system

This double rope system is used for self belaying to move a jonction node awayfrom the anchor, to negociate damageable edges or to ease rope rapelling (ropescan ’t cross in the device and remain separated from one another)

CARE : in this case, self belaying will work only on one side : here, only the white rope can be moved separately.

16

Alternative ATK system

In addition to previous system, the self belaying is possible on both ropes alternatively

COMPATIBLE CARABINERS FOR

alternative ATK SYSTEM

For an ideal use of the alternative ATK system, avoidthis type of carabiners: rope wilstuck between the device and the carabiner (fig 1) preventingself belaying possibility

Only circular type carabiners permit efficient use of alternative ATK system

18

Thin rope use

A tendancy in the practice is the use of thindiameter ropes, but such exceptionnal technicsmust be used by experimented technicians

ITALIAN ascending technic

Ascending with the so called « Italian » way (right)

Reverse to absailing position (left) will only need a pull downwardon the ATK device and a tension on the rope for good braking.

20

ATK rising hand

The shape of the upper horn allow large range of positions for the braking hand : this helps to access delicate anchors whilekeeping a good brake, even with the hand rising above the device, with no risk of a rope jump.
