Definition of Microwave

Microwave is the electromagnetic wave with super high frequency. The wavelength of microwave is 1 m – 1 mm. And the frequency of microwave is 300 Mhz – 300 Ghz.

The Inventor of Microwave

The Inventor of the microwave was started from Heinrich Hertz in 1888 he showed the existence of electromagnetic waves with build a tool that produce and detect microwaves in the UHF region.

The beginning of invention was started from the existence of electromagnetic wave that predicted by James Clerk Maxwell in 1864.

- Radar (Radio Detection and Ranging) - Microwave oven

Microwave Oven

Microwave oven is a kitchen appliance that use microwave radiation to cook or heat food.

Microwave’s components:- Magnetron

Magnetron is a core part of the microwave oven. Its function is to convert electrical energy into microwave radiation. On the inside of the magnetron, electron that is emitted from a central terminal called the cathode. Positive pole is called the anode surrounds the cathode and attract electrons. During the electrons flow in the oven room, the electrons produce magnetic field wave continuously.

- Waveguide

Waveguide is a component that is designed to direct the waves. Waveguide for microwaves can be made from the conductor material.

- Microwave Stirrer

Component which resembles a propeller is used to spread the microwave in the microwave oven. Usually, it is combined with a component like a dish that can be played on the bottom. This combination enables the speed of maturity level evenly when cook.

The workings of a microwave oven when an object is heated:• Alternating electric current with low potential

difference and direct current with high potential difference is converted in the form of direct current.

• Magnetron use this current to produce microwave with the frequency is 2.45 GHz.

• Microwave is directed by an antenna on the top of magnetron into a waveguide.

• Microwave is continued to a device like a fan by waveguide, it is called the Stirrer. Stirrer spreads the microwave inside the oven chamber.

• Then, this microwave is reflected by the walls of the oven and is absorbed by the molecules of food.

• Because every wave has a positive and negative component, the molecules of food are pressed forward and backward for 2 times of the microwave's frequency speed, that is 4,9 million times per second.

Conclusion

Microwave is the electromagnetic wave with super high frequency. Microwave is so useful in our daily life, like in microwave oven and radar.
