participate in the 2019 Direct School
Admission (DSA-Sec) Exercise for
Admission to Secondary One in
2020.
GESS prides herself as being one of
the few secondary schools in
Singapore with a deep heritage
which spans more than 130 years.
Overview
DSA-Sec Exercise was introduced in
2004.
DSA-Sec Exercise seeks to promote
holistic education.
DSA-Sec allows participating schools
to select Primary Six students for
admission to Secondary One, based
on the students’ achievements and
talents before the PSLE results are
released.
What is Direct School Admission (DSA-Sec)?
STEM
Applicants should:
STEM
1. Have a passion for Mathematics or Science, with an
inquiring mind, and be able to work well in a team.
2. Have obtained a Conduct Grade of 'Very Good' or better
in Primary 5 and 6.
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted to attend the
selection interview, including a short STEM assessment.

Basketball (Boys)
Male applicants should:
Sports
1. Have a passion for Basketball.
2. Have obtained a Conduct Grade of 'Very Good' or better
in Primary 5 and 6.
3. Attained Silver or Gold standard for NAPFA.
Only short-listed candidates will be contacted for a General
Physical Ability Test and a basketball skills assessment trial.

Football (Boys)
Male applicants should:
Sports
1. Have a passion for Football.
2. Have obtained a Conduct Grade of 'Very Good' or better
in Primary 5 and 6.

Choir
Applicants should:
Performing
Arts
1. Have a passion for singing/music.
2. Have obtained a Conduct Grade of 'Very Good' or better
in Primary 5 and 6.
3. Enjoys singing as part of an ensemble.
Only short-listed candidates will be contacted for a selection
trial on which will include singing a piece of their choice.

Contemporary Dance
Applicants should:
Performing
Arts
1. Have a passion for Dance.
2. Have obtained a Conduct Grade of 'Very Good' or better
in Primary 5 and 6.
3. Exhibits a passion for dance and is able to express
creativity in dance routines.
Only short-listed candidates will be contacted for a dance
selection trial. Shortlisted applicants can bring and submit a
simple 2-minute video-recording of the applicant showcasing
dance routines to a song (Optional). The video may not
necessarily be a new, isolated one solely for DSA application;
the video may feature applicant in his/her primary school
production.

Drama - English
Applicants should:
Performing
Arts
1. Have a passion for Drama acting.
2. Have obtained a Conduct Grade of 'Very Good' or better
in Primary 5 and 6.
Only short-listed candidates will be contacted for an interview
and a selection trial on vocal projection, articulation,
interpretation of character, emotion, and stage movement,
followed by a scenario in which they will have to think
creatively to improvise a scene.

Band (Concert)
Applicants should:

Arts
1. Have a passion for Music.
2. Have obtained a Conduct Grade of 'Very Good' or better
in Primary 5 and 6.
Only short-listed candidates will be contacted for an interview
and a selection trial on aural tests (rhythm and pitch), playing
of scales (tongued and slurred) and performing a short
prepared piece that showcases your ability on the relevant
instrument.

of-charge and will be open from 8 May
