Mother Earth GAIA is an interesting Greek goddess. More than

just being a goddess, she represents primordial power in

mythology. The idea behind this name is the creation of a brand

that sells packaged seeds. Different types of seeds so they can

be planted. I came up with this idea because in my opinion,

plants are not only part of our Earth, but also, they are a

primordial power in nature.

The intention of this brand is to be used in many applications,

including packaging for different types of seeds used for

planting like sunflower seeds, magnolia seeds, tulip seeds, rose

seeds, and many others. At the beginning I was undecided on

which god or goddess to choose from but, Gaia brought my

attention because of its interesting and short name. The story

behind Gaia is interesting. She had many children: Oceanus,

Coeus, Cirus, Hyperion, Iapetus, Cronus, Mnemosyne, Phoebe,

Rhea, Tethys, Theia, Themis, Brontes, Steropes, Arges, Cottus,

Briareus, and Gyges. Gaia was married to Uranus, and Uranus

couldn’t stand seeing all their monstruous sons, so he forced

them to remain hidden in their mother’s womb, that is, hidden

under the earth.

The idea of seeds comes from this story, since they remain

under earth for a very long time until they emerge into

something beautiful. Gaia is also the Greek version of Mother

Nature, considered as many as the Great Goddess. The

delicacy of flowers is considered an enormous part of nature,

and Gaia Seeds emerges from this concept.

There were several other options when thinking about a brand

with this name. The creation of tea bags was a strong idea also,

but it really did not represent mother earth as much as the

seeds. Also, I researched in Google a few packaging seeds and

none of them had Gaia for a name, so this is part of the

motivation also. Creating this brand was not an easy task, since

many logo ideas came to my mind and I couldn’t decide which

idea to use and expand.

I thought about creating a brand that represented only the

seeds, for example, using little dots on the brand. This did not

succeed because it lead to many interpretations. I studied

many other ways to play with the logo until I decided creating

seeds that actually looked like leaves. I was thinking about

making the logo with a more “leafy” shape, but this shape was

interpreted as flames, so I designed two simple seeds that

when put together, look like leaves.

I chose brown and green for the colors of the brand. These two

colors represent Earth in a direct way, and I consider that being

direct when transmitting a brand is a part of success when

studying the brand as a whole concept.

The chosen font is a handwritten font, that looks elegant but at

the same time, playful. I consider that this is not a serious type

selection, but a delicate one. This type can be easily

differentiated amongst many others, and uniqueness is part of

Gaia. The brand is separated between the type and the symbol.

I decided to create it this way so in future applications; they can

be used separately and still share the meaning of the brand.

My purpose is to create a new concept for seeds, to

differentiate them in stands or booths in a store. I hope that the

creation of this new brand succeeds in all future applications.
