It’s hard to imagine a couple hours’ drive from Toowoomba, communities are going through extreme
crisis. Rural schools rely on their rainwater tanks to supply drinking water to students and staff, but due
to severe drought, these schools have seen their tanks run all but dry. With kids around the region also
suffering from the effects of the drought on their own properties, these schools have witnessed the
students arriving at school with empty water bottles just to be filled up.
A Brisbane mother, Mandy Van Deventer, has established a drive ‘Mum on a Mission Water Drive’, to help
collect donations from the public to distribute to the schools in need.
Recently she and a generous team, collected and distributed 4.5 Tonne of water to seven schools in the
Granite Belt.
After hearing about her message and request for donations on the radio, we contacted Mandy to see if
we could lend a helping hand.
We now are a drop off point for the Mum on a Mission Water Drive for the Toowoomba area. Here,
members of the Toowoomba area can contribute to the drought affected children, by donating water.
We ask you to join us, to help the communities in dire straits, and donate or spread the word!
MUM ON A MISSION WATER DRIVE We’ve jumped on board with a Brisbane mother, who is running the ‘Mum on a Mission Water Drive’ and have become a drop off point here in Toowoomba to support her great cause. Mandy is collecting donations for bottled water to be distributed to schools in the Granite Belt region who have limited access to drinking water for their students and teachers.

An essential component of your hot water system which will require maintenance is your sacrificial
anode. You will find most hot water systems feature this element, a vital part which contributes to the
protection of your hot water system tank.
A sacrificial anode is a metal rod, which hangs down inside your hot water tank. The anode is normally
made from aluminium or magnesium and is coated in zinc. These rods are designed to attract mineral
and impurities present in the water which may react with the structural elements and insides of your tank
cylinder, eventually causing deterioration such as rust and corrosion. The rod attracts these minerals and
impurities and slowly rust and degrades; hence the name ‘Sacrificial’ anode. The sacrificial anode
ultimately sacrificing itself to maintain the life of your hot water system cylinder.
Here at AJ’S, we’re big believers of regular maintenance to save potential disasters costing you huge
dollars. From our experience, we would recommend replacing these anodes once every three years,
however, this can vary depending on the water quality at your property. We would also advise
researching the system's manufacturer recommendations for the time durations between replacements.
Failure to replace a sacrificial anode is probably the biggest single cause of hot water tank failure. If you
have a qualified plumber replace your sacrificial anode regularly, you can easily extend the service life of
your hot water tank by another five years, ten years or even more.
If AJ’S complete your sacrificial anode replacement, we have advanced job scheduling software, simPRO
Enterprise, which gives us the ability to schedule when your next sacrificial anode is due for replacement.
We will most likely give you a call around this time to follow up on how your system is operating. We can
inspect your system and anode, and determine whether it will require replacing, or if not, our qualified
tradesmen will provide you with an estimate of when your next sacrificial anode may need replacing in
the future.
If you think your sacrificial anode is due for a replacement, why don't you give our friendly administration
team a call today, who will arrange one of our certified plumbers to attend to your hot water system
maintenance!

Hot water systems are a crucial appliance in our
homes, and sometimes it is easy to forget just how
much we depend on them. Much like all your plumbing
systems in your home, AJ’S like to emphasise the
importance of regular maintenance.
Effective maintenance for your hot water system saves
you valuable dollars in the long run and can even
double or triple the lifespan of your system.
