PARKING/TRAFFIC CONCPARKING/TRAFFIC CONCERNSERNS
Parking is often congested, particularly before and after school around larger schools, including here at Aveley PS. As our school continues to grow, we need to consider alternatives to limit the congestion. Information re additional/alternative parking is attached to this newsletter.
As a community, we should consider other options; include walking, cycling or parking nearby and walking the short distance to school. Please let us know if you have any other suggestions.
A reminder that it is a traffic offence to park over footpaths, block driveways, park in ‘no parking’ or ‘no stopping’ areas, double park, park on a verge without the owners’ consent or park your vehicle facing the wrong way.
PARENT TEACHER MEETIPARENT TEACHER MEETINGSNGS
A whole class teacher - parent (evening) meeting will be held in the next two weeks. This will be an opportunity for teachers to share a range of information in regard to classroom expectations and processes. Individual classroom teachers will forward details with further information home to families soon. As the meetings have parent specific content, it would be helpful if
children did not attend these sessions.
‘Parents as Partners’ in their child’s education is crucial in ensuring the best social, emotional and educational outcomes for children. It is important that parents and staff keep the lines of communication open. Please don’t hesitate to make an appointment to meet with classroom teachers to discuss your child’s progress and to have any concerns clarified. Teachers will
contact parents if and when required.
ASSEASSEMBLIES (SENIOR: YEAR 3 MBLIES (SENIOR: YEAR 3 –– 6, JUNIOR: PP6, JUNIOR: PP –– YR 2)YR 2)
Due to the significant increase in student numbers, we will have alternating assemblies for our senior and junior students this year. Our first Senior Assembly will take place next Thursday, 9 February and will be hosted by students from Mrs Williamson’s
(nee Ms Dugdale’s) Grevillea 6 class.
CANTEEN (PP CANTEEN (PP –– YEAR 6)YEAR 6)
To commence 2017, our canteen will be run by a P & C Canteen Committee. To begin the year, order forms will be distributed to families on Mondays and will need to be returned to the P & C Letterbox outside the Administration
Building by the commencement of the school day the following Wednesday. Meals will go out on Thursday.
The P & Cs Canteen Committee would appreciate assistance from volunteers to support this initiative this year.
Please contact them if you are able to help.
UNIFORM / HATSUNIFORM / HATS
It was pleasing to see all of our students in school uniform and with appropriate hats from day one. Well done everyone. Our school rule of ‘no hat no play’ will continue this year. The school’s dress policy requires that full brimmed (or legionnairs style) hats are required throughout the year.
Uniforms, including hats are available at Lowes in Ellenbrook Central Shopping Centre.

NEW PRIMARY SCHOOLS NEW PRIMARY SCHOOLS FOR PERTH IN 2019FOR PERTH IN 2019
We have recently been advised by Education Minister Peter Collier that, in response to increasing housing and student enrolments, a new primary school for students in Aveley will open in 2019. Minister Collier advised that, ‘in addition, temporary facilities will open next year for kindergarten and pre-primary students ahead of the completion of each school's permanent buildings, so that young children can
start their education in these new schools.’
The new school in Aveley North, on the corner of Egerton Drive and Strinesdale Boulevard, will be built for 540 students at cost of $17.3 million and will ease enrolment pressure on
Aveley Primary School and Ellen Stirling Primary School.
We are all looking forward to another wonderful year with students, staff and members of the school community
working together.
Hello and welcome to our first news for 2017. We hope that you all had a great holiday and are all invigorated for

During this year we also had the approval of a grant matching the funds raised by the Maggie Dent Seminar held in 2015. The funds and grant totalling $26,000 are being used for a new public exercise area just outside the

AVELEY PRIMARY SCHOOL PARENTS AND CITIZENS ASSOCIATION
From the President of the P&C
I would like to thank the public, the committee members and the staff who helped us throughout the year and I would like to congratulate the committee for another great year of fundraising and excellent events. These days our time seems so much more precious and limited so it is fantastic that people give up some of theirs to help the
P&C help the children.
In my time with the P&C I have been impressed by the amazing amount of money raised and donated back to the
school community. Tens of thousands of dollars have been used for the children’s benefit.
It has been an absolute pleasure to be a part of the P&C and I thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the Aveley Primary School community. I wish the 2017 committee all the best and hope they enjoy the continued support of
the exceptional Aveley Community.
Thank you all for your support,
Philip Bennett
