Congress president RahulGandhi today demanded an inves-tigation against Prime MinisterNarendra Modi on role in theRafale deal, alleging that he was a

“corrupt man” who helped AnilAmbani pocket Rs 30,000 crore inthe purchase of 36 aircraft.

Gandhi’s demand for a probecame a day after a report inFrench publication that saidDassault Aviation, the manufac-turer of Rafale, had to chooseAmbani’s firm Reliance Defenceas its offsets partner in India as atrade-off for getting the deal.

The Congress president didnot provide any evidence toback his allegations against thePrime Minister.

The Government has beeninsisting it had no role in

Dassault’s choice ofReliance Defence.

The Congress pres-ident also describedDefence MinisterNirmala Sitharaman’sthree-day trip toFrance from Thursdayas part of a “hugecover-up” by the gov-ernment on the Rafaledeal.

“Why has suddenlythe Defence Ministerrushed to France? Whatis the emergency?”Gandhi asked at a press

conference.“The reality is the Prime Minister

is corrupt. The Prime Minister ofIndia is a corrupt man,” he said.

Modi came to power on the

promise of fighting corruption, theCongress leader said, adding thathe wanted to tell the youth of the

country that the Prime Ministerwas involved in corruption.

On Wednesday, French inves-

tigative publication Mediapart,citing an internal document ofDassault Aviation, reported thatthe aerospace giant was forced toenter into a joint venture withReliance Defence as part of atrade-off to bag the contract forthe 36 Rafale jet deal.(PTI)
