BackgroundThe main goal for each SAE team is to build a low cost vehicle that could be mass produced for the public that could be used on the track.

Frame

Major setbacks occurred with frame design/fabrication

Front Bulkhead, Drivers Compartment and Rear Engine/Suspension Bay did not meet rules and regulationsImproper triangulation caused these issues.

Frame Cont’d

Frame was extensively modified to meet requirements.Front Bulkhead- Removed square tubing and

replaced with the same stock that is used for the rest of chassis and added new tubing for better triangulation

Driver’s Compartment- Sides were redesigned with two horizontal tubes running from roll bar forward with diagonals for support.

Frame Cont’dRear Engine/Suspension Bay

Engine compartment just needed another bar to triangulate.

Suspension Bay was more troublesome. The required modifications would block suspension

and driveline travel. Problem was addressed by using a “V” design. This

allowed for sufficient suspension travel, and met the rules/requirements.

Despite all modifications and delays with the frame much progress has been completed.

Modified Solid Works Frame

Suspension

Rear suspension has been installed and is functioning properly.

Front suspension a-arms have been installed, still need to work on the shock absorber system.

Rear Suspension

Rear Suspension 2

Steering &Controls

Steering Rack mounts have been fabricated and installed.

Steering Column still needs to have design finalized.

Clutch and Shifter have been installed on driver’s right side next to steering wheel for fast shift changes.

Brake pedals were slightly modified to allow more clearance for driver’s legs, and hydraulic brake lines.

Current Car Status

Engine

Engine work was slowed do to the massive frame modifications.

Engine was removed for frame modifications. Now that frame is reinstalled wiring through

firewall and frame can be completed.Once wiring is finished, fuel delivery and

exhaust system will be routed so that a running engine will be in the car.
