6

• I confess to almighty God, and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done, and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault, therefore I ask blessed Mary, ever virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

11

12

• COLLECT Let us pray:• O God, who through your Word• reconcile the human race to

yourself in a wonderful way,• grant, we pray,• that with prompt devotion and

eager faith• the Christian people may hasten• toward the solemn celebrations to

come.

13

• Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

• who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

• one God, for ever and ever.• Amen.

14

15

• FIRST READING• (2 Chr 36:14-16, 19-23)

• A reading from the second Book of Chronicles:

• IN those days, all the princes of Judah, the priests, and the people

• added infidelity to infidelity,• practicing all the abominations of

the nations• and polluting the LORD’S temple

16

• which he had consecrated in Jerusalem.

• Early and often did the LORD, the God of their fathers,

• send his messengers to them,• for he had compassion on his

people and his dwelling place.• But they mocked the messengers

of God,• despised his warnings,

17

• and scoffed at his prophets,• until the anger of the LORD against

his people was so inflamed• that there was no remedy.• Their enemies burnt the house of

God,• tore down the walls of Jerusalem,• set all its palaces afire,• and destroyed all its precious

objects.

18

• Those who escaped the sword were carried captive to Babylon,

• where they became servants of the king of the Chaldeans and his sons

• until the kingdom of the Persians came to power.

• All this was to fulfill the word of the LORD spoken by Jeremiah:

• “Until the land has retrieved its lost sabbaths,

19

• during all the time it lies waste it shall have rest

• while seventy years are fulfilled.”• In the first year of Cyrus, king of

Persia,• in order to fulfill the word of the

LORD spoken by Jeremiah,• the LORD inspired King Cyrus of

Persia• to issue this proclamation

20

• throughout his kingdom,• both by word of mouth and in

writing:• “Thus says Cyrus, king of Persia:• All the kingdoms of the earth• the LORD, the God of heaven, has

given to me,• and he has also charged me to

build him a house• in Jerusalem, which is in Judah.

21

• Whoever, therefore, among you belongs to any part of his people,

• let him go up, and may his God be with him!”

• Thanks be to God.

22

23

24

25

• RESPONSORIAL PSALM• (Psalm 137:1-2, 3, 4-5, 6)

• R/. (6ab) Let my tongue be silenced, if I ever forget you!

26

• 1) By the streams of Babylon• we sat and wept• when we remembered Zion.• On the aspens of that land• we hung up our harps.• R/. (6ab) Let my tongue be

silenced, if I ever forget you!

27

• 2) For there our captors asked of us

• the lyrics of our songs,• And our despoilers urged us to be

joyous:• “Sing for us the songs of Zion!”• R/. (6ab) Let my tongue be

silenced, if I ever forget you!

28

• 3) How could we sing a song of the LORD

• in a foreign land?• If I forget you, Jerusalem,• may my right hand be forgotten!• R/. (6ab) Let my tongue be

silenced, if I ever forget you!

29

• 4) May my tongue cleave to my palate

• if I remember you not,• If I place not Jerusalem• ahead of my joy.• R/. (6ab) Let my tongue be

silenced, if I ever forget you!•

30

31

32

33

• Second Reading• (Eph 2:4-10)

• A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Ephesians:

• BROTHERS and sisters:• God, who is rich in mercy,• because of the great love he had

for us,• even when we were dead in our

transgressions,

34

• brought us to life with Christ - by grace you have been saved -,

• raised us up with him,• and seated us with him in the

heavens in Christ Jesus,• that in the ages to come• He might show the immeasurable

riches of his grace• in his kindness to us in Christ

Jesus.

35

• For by grace you have been saved through faith,

• and this is not from you; it is the gift of God;

• it is not from works, so no one may boast.

• For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good works

• that God has prepared in advance,• that we should live in them.

36

• The word of the Lord.• Thanks be to God.

• VERSE BEFORE GOSPEL• (John 3:16)

• R. Praise to you, Word of God, Lord Jesus Christ!

• God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,

• so everyone who believe in him might have eternal life.—R.

45

• GOSPEL • (Jn 3:14-21)

• The Lord be with you. • ALL: And with your spirit. • A reading from the holy Gospel

according to John.• ALL: Glory to you, Lord.

46

• JESUS said to Nicodemus:• “Just as Moses lifted up the

serpent in the desert,• so must the Son of Man be lifted

up,• so that everyone who believes in

him may have eternal life.”• For God so loved the world that

he gave his only Son,

47

• so that everyone who believes in him might not perish

• but might have eternal life.• For God did not send his Son into

the world to condemn the world,• but that the world might be saved

through him.• Whoever believes in him will not

be condemned,

48

• but whoever does not believe has already been condemned,

• because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

• And this is the verdict,• that the light came into the world,• but people preferred darkness to

light,• because their works were evil.

49

• For everyone who does wicked things hates the light

• and does not come toward the light,

• so that his works might not be exposed.

• But whoever lives the truth comes to the light,

• so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.

50

• The Gospel of the Lord.• Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

57

• For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heavenand is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in gloryto judge the living and the dead/

77

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER II • You are indeed Holy, O Lord, the

fount of all holiness.

• Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray, by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall,

• so that they may become for us the Body and + Blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

78

• At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his Passion,

• he took bread and, giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:

• Take this, all of you, and eat of it: for this is my Body which will be given up for you.

79

• In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice and, once more giving thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying:

• Take this, all of you, and drink from it: for this is the chalice of my Blood, the Blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many

• EUCHARISTIC PRAYER III• You are indeed Holy, O Lord, and

all you have created rightly gives you praise, for through your Son our Lord Jesus Christ, by the power and working of the Holy Spirit, you give life to all things and make them holy, and you never cease to gather a people to yourself,

112

• so that from the rising of the sun to its setting a pure sacrifice may be offered to your name.

• Therefore, O Lord, we humbly implore you: by the same Spirit graciously make holy these gifts we have brought to you for consecration, that they may become the Body and Blood of your Son our Lord Jesus Christ at whose command we celebrate these mysteries.

113

• For on the night he was betrayed he himself took bread, and giving you thanks he said the blessing, broke the bread and gave it to his disciples, saying:

• Take this, all of you, and eat of it: for this is my Body which will be given up for you.

114

• In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice, and giving you thanks he said the blessing, and gave the chalice to his disciples, saying:

117

• Look, we pray, upon the oblation of your Church, and, recognizing the sacrificial Victim by whose death you willed to reconcile us to yourself, grant that we, who are nourished by the Body and Blood of your Son and filled with his Holy Spirit, may become one body, one spirit in Christ.

118

• May he make of us an eternal offering to you, so that we may obtain an inheritance with your elect, especially with the most blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with blessed Joseph, her Spouse, with your blessed Apostles and glorious Martyrs
