INDIAN DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION (IDF)(formerly Indian Leprosy Foundation) is a leading national NGO committed to Health, Education and Development.
OUR VISIONTo work towards creating a better India which provides basic health, education and empowerment to every citizen.
OUR MISSIONTo be a Knowledge/Execution Partner of Schools, NGOs, Corporates, and Government agencies for development programs across India.
OUR WORK IN THE AREA OF HEALTH CARE IDF has contributed significantly in designing Communication Strategies for leprosy elimination in India. Leprosy was rampant in India for 5000 years. In 1982, India had an estimated 4 million leprosy patients. Leprosy has medical and social dimensions and social boycott of patients aggravated the situation. Our Foundation, formerly known as Indian Leprosy Foundation, helped in designing "Communication Strategies and Management" towards bringing down the case load from 4 million in 1982 to less than 1 lakh within just 23 years. India declared its leprosy elimination status to the world in 2005, making it a major success in independent India! Indian Leprosy Foundation was then rechristened as Indian Development Foundation (IDF) with an expanded and diversified plan to fit in with the national priorities.
OUR WORK IN THE AREA OF EDUCATION
Bal Gurukuls : IDF recognizes the need for giving basic education for the poor
and underprivileged children. There are about 9 million children in our country
who have no access to education. The parents being illiterates do not encourage
the children to study, but send them for odd jobs to supplement family income.
Education is extremely crucial for India's needs and development.
IDF started with a Bal Gurukul concept (an after school programme) for poor
children from rural areas of Rajasthan in 2005. Currently IDF has 190+ Bal
Gurukuls across India and hopes to exceed 500 Bal Gurukuls by the year 2025.
IDF provides mid-day meals, uniforms, books, play materials, fees, etc., in
selected Bal Gurukuls through Project Aashayein and Project Umeed.

Mass clean-up drives are organised in different parts of India involving school and college students and volunteers from the corporate sector. Clean-up drives in beaches and public places are also carried out followed by Tree plantation forms a part of the clean-up and environment protection programme. IDF
networks with government agencies, corporate bodies and NGOs to spearhead the nations clean India movement.
iDiscover Programme : Emphasize on inculcating scientific temper in young minds. Children from IDF Bal Gurukuls/ slum schools in India are taken to Planetarium, Science Parks, Industrial units, Edutainment Parks etc., to expand the vision and awaken scientific temper. Science and Thinking Skill talks are also organized for the students and the teaching community. Students get hands-on experience in science and maths through our networking projects.
IDF's Centre of Excellence (CofE) will focus on enhancing employability among youth through `finishing school' concept. IDF CofE at Bangalore will have a Bal Gurukul, a state-of-the-art training centre, a women empowerment project and a leprosy/TB research unit - all under one roof.
