Other Regional Coast Guard Forum

• Forum has been operating for 5 years• 20 nations/members with wide variety of working

groups• Historically has been focused on topical discussions

rather than operational events• 2012 Forum included GUARDEX12 a

multi-national/multi-agency mass rescue SAREX in Dover Straits amidst wind farm infrastructure

• 2012 Forum also included case study of German container vessel (2700 containers) which caught fire in 2012. Required extensive coordination – fire last weeks.

North Atlantic Coast Guard Forum

The main accomplishments of the Forum have been:• tabletop and on-water exercises: disaster assistance, search &

rescue, marine security boarding, and illegal fishing• coordinated patrols to combat illegal fishing• Creation of an information exchange system• exchange of info on illegal drug and migrant activities.2009 event included a multi-national natural disaster exercise.2011 event included operational planning for 2012 Multi-national Fisheries Patrols

North Pacific Coast Guard Forum

• Mediterranean Coast Guard Functions Forum• 3rd Forum to be held 26-28 June, 2013 in

Palma de Mallorca, Spain
