Requirements: Age should be 18 years or more Able to speak and write English, as the course will
be conducted in English Trainees should be physically and medically fit for
strenuous training activities, including entry into water from a height A certificate in any of the recognized technical
college (VETA, DIT, NIT or any other technical cours-es Any of the technical background No working experience required
Course aim:To train participants in the basic concepts, princi-ples and techniques of personal survival, fire-pre-vention, fire fighting in the elements of basic, elementary first aid, personal safety and social responsibilities on board merchant ships according to the STCW95 requirements
Trainees who successfully complete the course shall
demonstrate continued proficiency and compe-tency in the elements of Basic Safety as laid down in STCW95 table A-VI/1, 1-AVI/1-2, A-VI/1-3 and A-VI/1-4
Course Outline: Personal Survival Techniques Understand the principle of sea survival and sur-
vival crafts life saving equipments carried aboard. Know the difference type of life boat and survival
techniques in sea water States the requirements for life boat for differ-
ent type of ships Know the different type of life Raft and dangers
to survivors in survival craft Know the procedures of launch the life raft and
life boat Understand and demonstrates the proper donning
of L/jacket and able to jump into the water with life jacket on Know the SOLAS training manuals requirements
and what to do when the abandon ship signal is made Know the action to take on arrival of rescue ves-
sel or helicopter.

fire prevention principle Processes of fire spreading; patrol system; fire
hazards; fire fighting organization Location of fire fighting appliances and emergen-
