From Sharon’s desk
Swimming School has begun for the next 2 weeks. It would be helpful if all students could have a plastic bag for their wet clothes and labelled clothing if possible. Lost property box is growing by the day with lots of jumpers and school clothing being left at the end of each day. Please ensure that clothing is well labelled for easy return. If clothing isn’t labelled, left over items are washed and placed in the clothing pool. End of year events are nearing. Presentation Evening for students in Stage 2 and 3 will be held on Tuesday 5th December commencing at 7:00pm. Student who are receiving an award will have a letter sent home. Any student receiving an award must be in full school uniform. Year 6 students may wear their Year 6 shirts. All Year 6 are required to attend. Students must remain for the entire evening and not leave after their award. The night has been organised to run smoothly and relatively quickly. Year 6 Farewell will be held Tuesday 12th December and of course the Stage 2 & 3 Big Day Out at the pool will be Friday the 15th December. It is important that we support our students to attend events such as the Farewell and the Big Day Out. All students are aware that they must be behaving well and following school expectations of being caring, respectful, responsible and cooperative students. These are all very positive events and will be a lot of fun for all. For students to attend they must be on track and not on behaviour monitoring. School Reports will be sent home with students on Wednesday 13th December. Staff have been working hard on completing these and making sure all assessments are completed. Any concerns please speak to your child’s teacher.
End of School will finish on Friday 15th December for all students. Teachers will return on Monday 18th December for a School Development day looking at Maths planning and training for 2018. School will return for 2018 on Tuesday 30th January for all students Year 1 to Year 6. Kindergarten have a staggered arrangement to allow for Best Start testing and all Kindergarten will begin school together on Monday 5th Feb. Have a great week! Book Club Thank you to Emma and Jackie for tallying up and processing the latest book club orders. Books should be back by Friday 1st December. A big thank you to all families who have supported book club this year. We have just purchased $300 worth of books using reward points from orders. Lost and Missing Books Overdue lists were printed on Friday 24/11/17. If you receive a notice and books have been returned since please disregard the notice. It is a huge task to keep track of all books and students. Some students received notices for books from last year. It would be fantastic if these books could be found and returned. As we prepare for stocktake we do find some books that have been returned to the wrong spot. If you have any concerns please contact us. Premier’s Reading Challenge There was a technical problem with our certificates. This has been fixed and they will be printed this week, ready for distribution. Thank you for your patience. If your child does not receive a certificate, they may be due to get a higher certificate. If possible these will be given out at the next whole school assembly. Happy Reading Sue Buttrey Teacher Librarian

Engineers Without Borders Last Thursday, Stage 3 were invited to participate in some
fun, hands-on activities run by Engineers Without Borders.
We learnt about human needs and how some
communities do not have all these needs. We looked at
what houses are made of and how some houses float on
water. We were given a challenge to make a house that
could hold as many marbles as possible. We had 5 marbles
to ‘spend’ and we had to trade them in for materials to
make our floating house, you could trade your marbles in
for many things like 1 cup, 30cm of foil, 4x paddle pop
sticks, 30cm cling wrap, 1x cardboard, 4x elastic bands, or
1x balloons. Groups had 5 minutes to plan how to design
their house and what materials they would need. After
that each group only had 10 minutes to make the house.
Then come the fun part, testing how many marbles each
house could hold, the highest from the day was 169. Thank
you to Engineers Without Borders for a great activity. We
learned lots and had a really fun
time.
Mackenzie Powyer.
